80'S METAL SETTINGS

Hello everyone. after several attempts to get a good 80s sound from my ada mp1 I discovered that by setting OD 1 to around 2.8 - 2.9 (no higher) and OD 2 to around 7.0 - 7.5, B = 2, M = 0, T = 2 - 4 and P = 12 (this is important) you get a truly convincing 80s marshall sound. Great for stuff like Scorpions, Quiet Riot, Twisted Sister but also for sounds like Iron Maiden from the early albums. With these settings, boosting the ADA with a Boss SD1 MIJ (vol at maximum, gain at zero and tone at 13 o'clock) you have the right push to go out with solos. As a power amp I use the one from a DSL 50 or the Torpedo Live Power Amp Simulator. For me these settings work well. I wanted to share my experience. Little trick: to get a nice sound in the solos I use 2 Roland sde 2500 delays (but it also works with a stereo delay), one with a channel set at around 40 ms. and the other channel at approximately 340 ms; feedback at 40% (approximately 3 - repetitions). Pan not very far from the center. A really big sound comes out.

Hey Peter, cooking with gas as they/we say...  Fantastic you are getting great tones :thumb-up: and thanks for sharing :woohoo2: .

The 40ms delay is very similar to the ADA chorus set rate=0 depth=100 trick (but nice warm analogue bucket brigade).  Creates a nice fat sound in stereo.  The delay in a chorus is typically between 5 and 50ms.  In the ADA chorus, depth sets the delay time and rate the modulation speed/sweep.

Is the 40 ms left - 340 ms right that creates the magic... :headbang:  :thumb-up:

Metal up your ass for everyone!!!  :metal:  :metal:  :metal:

What about Master's level?

I also would test a couple of 5751 tubes in my MP-1.

I tested those settings, obtaining a light crunch....non exactly a '80s metal sound...
That's only me?

I didn't boost the MP-1 with external pedal.
Should I?

I used:

1) ADA MP-1 --> TC GMajor (noise gate, eq and delay)--> BBE 362 NR --> Intellifex (reverb) --> TA '70 stereo tube power amp --> Blackstar 2x12
2) Gibson Les Paul Studio with Duncan '59 pickups
3) Music Man Axis Super Sport (stock)

The tone I get is close to classic AC/DC Malcolm's rhythm sound...maybe slightly lighter.

Can you post a couple of samples?
On the run again!
