Hi all, new member here from NZ.

Living in Invercargill, Southland, in the South Island.

Just got myself an MP-1 - as a long time fan of George Lynch and Dokken, Skid Row, Nuno and Paul Gilbert i was inadvertently a long time fan of the A/DA MP-1.

It hasn't arrived yet, still a month or so away - but it's an American 110v model complete with foot switch - eagerly awaiting its arrival!

Look forward to getting to know you all, couple of questions need to be asked but I'll post them in the relevant section!

Cheers all!!

Hey CJR09, welcome to the depot and greetings from Australia :wavingsmiley: (or over the ditch I think you guys call it LoL).

So you are going to need a step down transformer (last I heard you guys have the same power and plugs as we do, 230-240v 50Hz Type I).  IIRC the US models are 117v, the Japanese 110v, Europe/Australia/UK 220v. The MP-1 needs about 12 watts. E.g. This one is cheap and supplies 75 watts 75w 240v to 110 Step Down

The MP-1 works fine on a step down transformer (some ADA units don't e.g. MT100  ).  And/or you'll need to change the MP-1 transformer for an original 220v (EU/Aus/UK) and the midi switch wall wart.  It can be a little hard to find a 220v MP-1 transformer, although some members have them spare after doing the MDRT replacement.  The MDRT is another option as it can be wired 110v or 220v MDRT (~$179 NZD).

Cheers Richard

Good man Richard, thanks for that you have answered my first question regarding what size of step down needed!!

I'll go the step down to start and look to replace the transformer down the track.

Cheers for the reply, much appreciated!  :metal:

Hey CJR09, too easy and (like all here) happy to help anyway we can  .

So here's a few questions for when your MP-1 arrives as it will affect our answers (if/when you have more questions).
What version MP-1 is it?  So the main differences are going to be:
Version 1 - has top switch (changes main A/B outs from inst level to line level) and rear input is line level
Version 2 - no top switch A/B outs are line level and rear input is inst level

What EPROM (Firmware) version is it, this is displayed on start up, last version released was v2.01 which included dump/load programs to PC, and included some more factory presets.

What tubes are in it? (take off the lid and check them, post a pic (or a few pics) is good for us).  while you have the lid off, measure the memory battery with a multi meter.  So it's a 3v lithium button style battery located near the transformer.  Typically, this will need to be changed (if it hasn't been done already) as MP-1s' are now quite old.  When the battery dies (>2.7v) the ram chip (where all your patches are stored/saved) stops working (so write down any patches you develop and like).  Upside is it's reactively easy (and cheap) to install a battery holder (takes a CR2032).
