Blast from the Past!

This thread inspired by Chester the Jester and rnolan's recent reminiscence about a certain video.  ;)

Quote from: chester_the_jester on September 22, 2024, 02:39:47 PMHope you guys are all well.  I was watching the We're Stars vid we made a few years back (ok, more than a few - lol) and thought how great it would be to own a 3TM again...

Quote from: rnolan on September 23, 2024, 01:35:24 AMWas it 14 years ago? maybe even longer, still sounds great

I just wanted to say a few things about this video.  First, every time I watch it more than anything else I am constantly reminded of all the hard work that was put in to make it happen.  It seemed to take forever to finish, but that was to be expected as there were many people involved from different places in the world and we all have to work around personal schedules, jobs, families, etc.  We (this ADA community) have recorded "online jams" before but I believe this project was another level far above any of that.  This was a LOT of work.  I can't even imagine how many hours were put in by everyone involved....guitarists, bassist, drummer, vocalists, audio producers, video producers, etc!  I'm so very proud of how everyone pulled together for this!
Second, pay no mind to the negative comments left on the YouBoob channel about this video.  "they didn't play the original solos.." That was the point and they clearly are missing it.  Why should we showcase the famous peoples' solos in this Tribute? Why wouldn't we instead show what we can do on our own?  I for one don't see any point in going through all that work just to make an exact carbon copy of what's already been done.  This was a chance for some non-famous and unknown musicians to be Stars.

Hey Kim, it was amazing that you all pulled it off.  I wasn't aware of it even being a cover (nor do I care) until I saw other versions in the youtube results.  I also didn't bother reading comments, I rarely do.

I agree, why would you try to duplicate other solos, that's just completely missing the point.  I loved the variety and getting to taste everyones various styles and tones.  Moreover, I have some idea how much work/effort went into it.  Fantastic result and you should all be proud, I know I'm proud of you all for doing it and doing it so well :thumb-up: :wavingsmiley: :woohoo2: .

Man, some of those names I had forgotten...from when I found the Depot a million years ago

A lot of those ol' timers aren't in here anymore, or they're just lurking. Some have sold their ADA gear and feel like they don't have a place here anymore, that's NOT TRUE. I'd love to hear from some of those folks - ALL are welcome to chime in.

There's a whole different crop of folks here now, which is good. But, Jurrie did foster a magical 'lightning in a bottle' with this forum that nobody can replicate. Miss that guy

+1  :thumb-up:

The Depot is far from dead and any negative comments on YT or anywhere else, don't matter. Most of the people who comment, have no idea what the Depot is about.

Dante, your comment about Jurrie catching lightning in a bottle is spot-on. There is no other Forum on the internet like this one, and probably never will be. A lot of us who are still around have known each other on here for a long time, and we've shared a lot of different ups and downs on here. This Forum is more like a family, or at the very least, a band of brothers that spans the globe.

Sure, we're unknowns to the world, but not to each other. I dare say we still have world-class talent here. To quote one of our own members here, we're all legends. (2112, aka Leon Todd of the band Ragdoll).

Hey Harley, spot on my friend :thumb-up: .  IMHO ADA preamps are still the best (ever) I've come across.  I loved the original site and cohort (and I miss Jurie too).  And all kudos to Dante for resurrecting/creating our current version.  It's the only forum I'm on, and, as you say we are family :wavingsmiley: .

So I turn 65 tomorrow (where's my walking stick LoL), and I'm going to commission a SG build, but with everything I want on it. JPLP neck profile (it's to die for), 24 frets (22 clear of the body), Locking Floyd trem, 57 PUs, paper in oil caps, thicker body, oiled finish, maybe neck through body? stainless frets.  So I'm taking the day off to go talk to the guy, and he's so busy, I'm going to offer to help him with all the other work he has.

I tried a custom shop 60's SG reissue the other day, ~$14k AUD, with the weird sideways Vibrola (yuck).  It may be collectable? but it didn't float my boat :undecided: .

Richard, We live in a small world....

My birthday is TODAY (10/1) and I just ordered myself a custom CHIBSON V with a reverse Explorer headstock. Goldtop, cream binding, natural back, headstock also gold with single layer of binding....can't wait to swap out the electronics and have my own custom guitar (Chinese or otherwise)

Back in the day, the Japanese guitars were looked down upon like these Chibsons....I think that may change later, like it has for the Jap guitars. Who knows.

Happy Birthday Dante

Back in the day Japanese guitars were looked down upon because their work was enviously better than what we were putting out here in the States at the time. A lot of use picked up those Japanese guitars because they offered features that weren't available here in the States.

People are dissing the Chinesium guitars because it's much more obvious why they are so cheap. I've seen a few where the bodies are splitting at the neck joints. I'm sure not all of their production is like that, but I'm also certain the price will reflect the quality.

Richard, by the time you see this....Happy Birthday to you too
