ADA's Best Gear
« on: Time Format »

In your opinion, which ONE piece of gear (in factory stock form and no mods) did ADA really "knock it out of the park" so to speak.  Not necessarily in terms of popularity, but which one do you believe is/was their single BEST unit?   No right or wrong answers, just looking for all the opinions.   And let's face it: Polls are fun.   :banana-rock:

Wauw that was hard to just pick one but I have choosen the MP-1 since I've been using it for more then 25 years.
Now if I have to pick a modulation effect I would go for the TFX-4 awesome flanger and chorus.
For delays I would pick the digitizer 4.

So this is my top 3.Sorry Kim they have so much great stuff  :dunno:

I'm with MJMP on this one Kim.

They made a lot of great gear, not just preamps.

We all know the MP-1 turned the whole industry on it's ear in 1987, so that would have to be the #1 preamp.
My choice of effects unit would be the S-1000 because it does a variety of effects, and does them all very well.
My choice for one of the most unexpected processors would have to be the Microcabs. Since that came out, just like the MP-1, everyone scrambled to imitate it.

Sorry, but that's like asking you to pick your favorite child.

Well MP2 for me but as with MJMP and Harley, very hard to pick just one thing.  The B200s is such a good workhorse, and I love the split stacks and cab sims and MP1..  Never got to play with the FXs unfortunately, from comments here I'd love them too...

Yeah, I realize it's hard to choose just one...
But I'm going with the MP-2 in this round.

I think it's a lot tougher for guys like MJMP and myself because we own so much ADA gear, and we know from experience how good we can make it all sound together. Take one piece away from the rig, and it becomes noticeably lacking.

I cast my vote for the Classic.

I love the tones, but the fact that it has the noise gate built in, and the stereo effects loop, with the ease of editing just like the original. I like the fact that in the effects loop you can leave the level and effect balancing to the effect unit and just cut the loop in or out with whatever patch you are on.
With the MP-2, I've noticed that when you change the wet/dry mix below 100%, it colors the program you are in. The Classic is transparent in this sense.

I'm going with the MP-2 as the ultimate version of the design.

I'm with Harley on this one, MP-1 Classic is my choice.

Of course, I don't have a gigantic collection of gear to compare....if anyone wants to send me their gear to try out, I'm all for it  :thumb-up:

Casting my vote for the MB-1

Not just because I'm a bass player, but because:
- it is an all in 1 unit everything you NEED is in that beast and is has enough fllexibility to incorporate the "Nice to have" additions.
- It has 2 voices that can be used in parallel
- It has effects loop that can be used both serial and parallel, which was a novelty then (and still rare now in fully analogue path units)

Hey Harley, just trying to work out exactly what you mean  :dunno: , so you can change the wet/dry mix in both the effect and the MP2, generally I'd run the effect 100% wet and adjust the wet dry mix in the MP2 (not that I've ever used the loop much as I use a desk and aux/fx sends). But I'm wanting to build a smaller rack (max 4 RU) and will want to use the loop.

@R Why don't you use the mixer inside the MP-2,it's fully analog?

Hey Richard,

Just try the effects loop in the MP-2, with nothing plugged into it. Turn it on, and change the mix from 100% wet to 100% dry. You should notice a slight difference in the program your in. Both of mine do this.
