After seeing a few damaged MP-2 PCBs caused by folks having trouble removing components, I wanted to make sure everyone knows about the miracle of low melt solder.  The stuff is amazing for removing components without stressing the board, etc.  You can find it on Amazon and a bunch of other places online. For the amount of time and pain it saves, it was a bargan.  Just don't actually solder with it.  It should only be used for component removal.  You must clean up any remaining low melt solder with solder wick.  The replacement component should then be soldered regular solder.

This video will give you some idea of how to use it.

Hey Gregg, very cool video, even though he was working on surface mount stuff, I can see how that would be very useful for our through hole boards :thumb-up: . And hopefully not lift pads :undecided: .

It works great for through hole work.  Makes getting large caps and unsocketed ICs out effortless.  Spend more time wicking up the low melt than anything else.
