Hey RG (remastered cds are always put through a limiter and dynamics smashed), interesting, that's not been my experience but then that's been with older stuff I spose e.g. all the Deep Purple 50th anniversary re-masters (and sometimes re-mixes ala Machine Head where you get a remastered CD and a remixed CD, the remix is awesome but they should have kept the original smoke on the water solo :( ) have always been much better than the original (mostly vinyl  : ).  Maybe they get fixated on the "gotta make it the loudest out there" syndrome (which IIRC is a bug bear of yours as well as mine).

Strange, how old are these re-mastered versions?

Most albums these days never mind re-masters are producing almost square wav forms, certainly in the kind of music I listen too anyways.  It's all thanks to the loudness wars, it's totally bullshit.

Hey RG, they are pretty old, certainly mostly before the "loudness wars".  Most are CDs of LPs I have which I've picked up over the years as I no longer have a record player.  Most of them are just CDs made from the original master tapes so minus the jiggery pokery that gets applied when cutting to wax or whatever to make a vinyl record due to its limitations. Some of them have a couple of remixed tracks or previously unreleased songs that didn't fit the 10 song limit for a record, or alternate versions.  But when you check the wav forms they are (mostly) well within the dynamic range, as are all the mixes I've done of my own stuff.

Aerosmith.   After playing around recording part of an Aerosmith song, I was reminded of just how great the interplay between Perry and Whitford is.   I love Toys in the Attic, and I've played and recorded it before, but just doubling the main guitar part.   Digging in and hearing and feeling the interplay really opened my eyes.

I think I am going to take some time and dig into them some more, as well as some other bands that really do that interplay well.   Not so much a rhythm/lead thing, but looking in to the ones that really take that 2 guitar thing up a notch, where each part makes the other part better.

Aerosmith is always a good choice Zilthy,

   Brad and Joe made a lot of great rock and roll tracks over the years, and Toys is their best known album, but then again, Get Your Wings was also a great one too, but doesn't seem to get the same recognition as Toys. I have a lot of fun playing songs off both albums.

as for guitar interplay, or interplay between guitar and all the other instruments in a band, may I recommend the album in my next post?

The Doobie Brothers - What Were Once Vices, Are Now Habits

   A killer album from 1974, and my favorite of all the Doobies albums, (Yes, that includes The Captain And Me).

   I've been having a blast playing a lot of the songs from this album for the last week or so. This album struck a chord with me when I first got it back in the day, and as far as I'm concerned, it still stands up to anything written today.
  The guitar talents of Tom Johnston, Patrick Simmons, and Jeff "Skunk" Baxter, only being a part of the equation, combined with Tiran Porter's "In-The-Pocket" bass, and the two drummers, John Hartman, and Keith Knudsed, along with the Memphis Horns, makes this album real ear candy.

I was listening to Winger's "Pull" album from 1993 this morning. I believe Reb used a Carvin preamp and power amp at the time and boy does it sound good ! (Well he is an outstanding player so it only makes sense ! )

Hey Gerry,

     I think he might have been using a Suhr amp for that, since he was just getting his signature Suhr guitar around that time. I could be mistaken about the timeline, but I believe that's a prototype for the PT100 amp that he uses currently.

Listening Crypta brazilian Death Metal, Nevermore, Cacophony and Witherfall (vocalist has taken vocal duties in Sanctuary to fill in for too young when left us  :'( the Great and late Warrel Dane) and lots of bay area stuff, and almost forgot Exodus (Gary Holt high underrated guitarist) thank god Hammett left for Metallica :banana:
