MIDI Dump between MP1s?
« on: Time Format »

Just got another MP1, v 1.38, and I'm trying to see if I can send my patches from one of my MP1s to the new one.  I know it's possible with MIDI Sysex, but I can't wrap my head around that whole process.

I can just go in and manually program every patch and every program change, but if I can just do a data dump from one to the other, that would save me a lot of time.

The MP1(s) I'm trying to send from are both v2.01 and this new one is a 1.38

Hey Chip, I suspect you'll have to put a v2.01 EPROM into the 1.38 to do the dump(s) and loads as the v1.38 EPROM program didn't have sysex dump and restore capability, that came with lv2.  I don't think you can transfer directly from one unit to another? (like you can with MP-2), IIRC you'll have to save the programs to PC and then load them into the other unit.  But once you load them you can revert the EPROM back to 1.38 as the programs will be stored in RAM.

Normally you can do this but like Nolan said both units need the V2.01 firmware, it doesn't work on a 1.38.

Now to do this, you connect the midi out of the mp-1 you want to send from to the midi in of the mp-1 you want to recieve.
Then on the mp-1 you want to send from press STORE, it will light, then press the BANK button and while holding it press 6, the display will read "sending all"
No need to do anything on the recieving mp-1, an mp-1 is always ready to recieve sysex midi with a V2.01.

Also make sure both units are on the same midi channel (setting to "All" doesn't work I think, so choose a number). Also make sure the memory protect is "off" on the recieving unit. It usually is, but just in case you need to change it almost the same procedure, store, bank + 8 will turn memory protect on and off.

That's new, I haven't seen this before. How did you find this?

BTW if you want to use this editor the midi channel can't be set to all !!!!

Great so now we have one for the MP-1, the classic and the MP-2, just the MB-1 is missing. Seems nobody cares about bass players :-[

Hey MJMP, I think this one does MP-1 and MB-1, I'm pretty sure this is from when we were sending him any of the sysex info we had  :dunno: .

Wow, thanks for these tips, everyone!  That's a pretty cool browser-based MIDI editor; I might have to give that a spin here.

I think so, it was a few years ago so I'm not totally sure.  I know that a member did a MP-1 and MB-1 editor but not the MP-2, then later the MP-2 one got done by valdiorn using .net

Chip, did it work out to copy from one mp-1 to the other?
