Hello all, I am new here :) I live in London so I am looking for an original ADA MP1 in good condition. I am flexible with the price, thank you

Hey carv,

   Welcome to the Depot  :wavingsmiley:

I saw one for sale in Germany on ebay, so that would already be set up for 220V.

Of course, you can also keep checking into the Depot and follow the Gear For Sale thread. You never know when one might show up.
I only have two brain cells left, ...and I'm saving them for the weekend!

Hi there!  :adabig:
There are some ADA preamps (MP-1, MP-1 Classic and MP-2) for sale here in Italy, but I assume that today shipping prices to UK could be a pain in the ass...
Furthermore, prices can vary from 400 to 800 euros.

However, if you're interested I can link the sales announcements here, if there's no problem for the Admins, or send you links with a PM.
Just let me know!

Yes please I can buy from Italy not a problem!

Hey Max, no issues from me if you want to post some links :wavingsmiley:

@Carv, welcome to the depot and greetings from Australia.

So I know you want a MP-1, may I suggest there is a really nice quality MP-2 for sale from Portugal (so 240v), which became my fav after 15 + years with a MP-1.
Studio Rig: Stuff; Live Rig: More Stuff; Guitars: A few

carv

Thank you very much :) but for now I just want the MP-1 or maybe MP-1 Classic but really prefer the first one

One more question, I have found in the past some MP1s with "3TM" and "MDRT" mods, and from a quick google search I saw people saying that these mods increase the gain to levels more appropriate for thrash metal and heavier tones in general, contrary to the stock MP1 that had more 80s hard rock / hair metal type of gain. Does that make sense? In case I find one modded.. to know what to expect

Hey Carv,

The 3TM is a three-tube modded MP-1 designed by Todd Langner in the late 80s. It does have increased distortion levels in both the clean and distortion tube modes, so much so that you cannot get any clean tube tones anymore. The only clean sounds in that MP-1 are in the solid-state mode.

The MDRT is a custom transformer replacement of the original designed by one of the former members of the Depot here, (Machinator Developed Replacement Transformer). It actually provides more power to the tubes and other areas of the MP-1, since the original transformer was designed to operate at a reduced power level. To my ears, it does alter the tone characteristics of the original MP-1. It will enhance some of the gain settings, but I also hear it altering the EQ curves.

A lot of the members like these mods as well as other mods available here at the Depot. It's all about your personal preferences for what kind of amp tone you are looking for.

I personally prefer my MP-1 totally stock, as I like the character it has, but I also have a 3TM modded one for the "peel-the-paint-off-the-ceiling" blistering lead tones when I want it.

My MP-1 has been modified by MJMP in many ways and we also installed there the MDRT.
It powers tubes at 240V, instead of 190V of original transformer.
This reduces compression and increases headroom and dynamics, making it more opens sounding and crispy.
I loved MP-1 original tone, but I love it more after these mods.
A slightly different beast, but....what a beast!
