Noise when close to power amp

Hey guys, enjoying my MP1 with MDRT and noise mod. Great tones and really quiet, except when it's directly above the power amp (Matrix GT1000FX). So there's noise when I have them lying on top of each other. When I have them in a 3U there's no noise. Is this typical behavior?

Is it a bad idea having them next to each other in a rack anyway?

It's possible that it could be noise from the power amps transformer that could be causing the noise you hear, but as a rule, I keep my power amps separated from my preamps for heat concerns. I'll put effect units between my preamps and power amps so that all the heat is not concentrated in one area, and ventilating them is easier.

That's just my personal preference.
I only have two brain cells left, ...and I'm saving them for the weekend!

That makes sense, thanks. When I move it around the noise goes away.
Was hoping to just use a 2U, but I might have to use the 3U then.

As Harley said, I use a Fx unit in between for heat dissipation reasons.  Although the MP-1 was designed/sold to sit directly on top of a B200s without noise issues.  If moving it around stops the noise then it definitely seems to be being affected by the power amp transformer.

The power transformer in the ADA gear is always right hand side (and at the rear in MP-1).  If the power transformer in you amp is on the left it will be directly under the input and tube section where it's more likely to have an influence.  But even so that kind of noise is rare :dunno:
