Seems I have/had a copy from 2007, so this should work with the .syp files Satch posted.

Hey MJMP, not sure, given when it was written it will be 32 bit I suspect (though maybe even 16bit ??) so you probably have to run it in the Win7 32bit backward compatible bubble (but that should work :dunno: ). I didn't install it (WinXP), I cancelled the install at the License Agreement after I read it was the Kent Dalton program. No point for me to install as I don't have MP1 (and as you said previously, only works with MP1 2.0 and 2.01 EPROM, also in the License Agreement).
Give it a try and let us know how you go. The syp stands for simple yet powerful scripting language which is what the program is written in (though in the end it will/should end up as a 32bit binary executable). I'm guessing though as I haven't researched it much.

Finally got it figured out. It would not work with my USB UNO midi interface. I had to go back to 2 full midi cables works great now. Thanks everyone :homer:

Hey El, Well maybe some one can, but all you need to do is install the program on your PC, ensure you have your MP1 midi in/out connected to your PC (via appropriate midi interface (sound card/usb etc)) and follow the instructions in the MP1 manual re dumping/storing / loading sysex and should be easy. :thumb-up:

Sorry for digging up an old thread but I need some help. I recently brought back an MP-1 from the graveyard with a new replacement transformer. I'm liking the tone that I get from it and I would like to give the MIDI interface a shot. I have never used MIDI before.
I have downloaded the Kent Dalton program, and my MP-1 has EPROM version 2.01.
I have located a MIDI cable on EBAY but I am not sure if it will work. The cable has a USB port on one end, with a Y junction to MIDI IN and OUT cables. There appears to be a switch in the middle. The listing states that it is compatible with Roland keyboards and Yamaha pianos and drums.

I am hoping that I can simply use this cable with my laptop, connecting it to one of the existing USB ports. Would one of you be able to verify if a simple cable like this will work with the Dalton software or will I require a more complex interface?

From my experience,these things don't work well with midi sysex files.

Kent's program works with sysex so... it might work or... not.
Also I haven't been able to make it work on a win7 computer but it did work on an XP based computer. Used it a lot.Now it does start and stuff but nothing happends for some reason.
Another thing to do is that the memory protect of the mp-1 has to be off and it does has to be set to a specific midi channel,so if the the midi channel is set to "All" or "off" it won't work.

This is something I'll have to pull out my old Dell laptop out of the closet and try out. That has XP Pro on it, and I have a MIDI UNO patch cable that I bought for use with my old Fender G-Dec, but I'll have to download and install a compatible browser for it to be able to get any MIDI sysex programs to inteface with any of my equipment.
It seems that Windows 7, and Vista don't work very well with this type of system. All the OS' after XP seem to have difficulty reading old MIDI files like those. At least, this is what the error messages seem to indicate.

Hey Chappy, the cable looks like it should work ok and says it's compatible with windows (except Win10) and also Mac OS X. IIRC though Mike said some of the cheap USB <> MIDI cables were a bit dodgy :dunno:

Appreciate all of the quick replies. Nice pickup on the Win10 issue Rnolan. I missed that in the Ebay listing. Unfortunately I am operating Win 10 now. I will do more research on cables and check out the bome.com website.
Perhaps I would be better off with a generic MIDI foot controller.

Hey Chappy, if you just want to switch patches via midi, a midi foot controller/switcher is the go. The USB/Midi cable and the sysex programs are. for the most part, to dump/backup your patches to your PC and load them again etc if required. Although GripHook is working on a patch editor PC program which needs you to connect the MP1 to your PC via midi.

There is a way to change the program number on the pc with bome sendsx.
hookup the usb to midi connector to the pc and connect the midi out to the midi in of the mp-1.
Start sendsx and select the midi device on midi out tab.
Then type in the midi out window C0 00 and press send (F4) and it will do a program change on midi channel 1 to program 01
If you press C0 01 it will change to 02. C0 0A will change to 11 etc... ,note these are hex numbers not decimal.
Program Change = 1100nnnn 0ppppppp (in binary) so in hex this will be C (=1100) 0 (midi channel 1) 00
This message sent when the patch number changes. (ppppppp) is the new program number
