I got this - I love the overdrive of Alex Lifeson from the Moving Pictures era

This will probably get you close. I tried some lower gain tubes in my stock MP-1 a looonnnngg time ago. Check out this post (http://adadepot.com/index.php?topic=303.msg1867#msg1867) I was trying to get more overdrive, less overgain. It worked.
