Title: what do you think about a tribute collaboration for Jurrie?
Post by: finstah on May 23, 2014, 12:51:19 PM
I keep watching the Stars video over and over and remember how much fun it was to jam with friends from around the world.

Just a thought, but what about a similar one in memory of Jurrie? The jams were cool but I think the video aspect is a neat touch.

Not sure the song or how to approach this or if anyone really cares? :P

It would be great fun to meet a few of the guys I've met in here. I'm open to a discussion about a get-together.

And, of course, everyone in here cares

If somebody has 3 or 4 riff to shred over.
2 verse riffs a bridge rif and a chorus riff, i can see if I can whip this into some song structure, add bass and drums, then distribute for others to shred on.

Peter and I are slicing and dicing one of my songs for everyone to have a crack at, I'm attempting to send him the files as there are 9 @ 40MB each.  He's going to slice and dice it to suit various needs, you can get a version no doubt to put some lyrics on.  The song is called Little Memory, it's kind of about my son who was borne but unfortunately not alive so in some ways maybe appropriate for Jur as in the anguish/loss I'm sure we all feel, my tail end solo for example...
Anyway hopefully you guys will like it to play to, it's in A 440hz
I've attached a squished MP3 so you can hear it, hope it's something you guys want to play on...

Ok just downloaded it back and had a listen, F&&k MP3 files are such a shit format, so sorry for the horrible sonics but I had to make it a zip (mp3 not aloud as upload) and keep it under the 2 MB limit, but hopefully you get the idea...

I'm upgrading my computer to a 64BIT system, a different soundcard (RME  O0) & a new version of Cubase, so I'm having a 3 week delay in setting this new jam up, sorry.

It will be done though :)

In the meantime can somebody start up the administration of people that want to contribute shredding and/or riffing?  :metal: :metal:

Well, if it would be of any assistance, I could setup an FTP repo for the tracks on this.   So, willing to help with the administration/organization.

RNolan:  Let's PM and get a better quality scratch to work with.

Everyone else:  Start signing up on parts (rhythm, vox, part (verse, chorus, etc)

Copied from (http://adadepot.com/index.php?topic=508.0) as more relates to this thread.
Thanks Zilthy, I'll get onto it  (http://adadepot.com/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
The tracks I sent to Peter are Kit L/R (electric drums but played live), bass, rhythm guit mono (not me BTW and needs to be back in the mix, the song doesn't really need it), acc guit, my guitar MP2 direct L/R (all riffs, intro, verse chordy bits, tail end solo), vox, vox harmonies. So Peter can do various mixes based on those tracks depending what you want to add.  From my perspective, the middle 8 is the only bit I don't feel is quite finished.  I plan to re-record the drums at some point (preferably with real drums).  So PM Peter to let him know which tracks you want included in a version you want to play on.  I'll ftp a higher quality .wav of the song so you can work out which tracks you want/don't want included.
I could also ftp the separate tracks so you can import them and do your own slice and dice...
The whole thing was recorded live with protools LE, the only overdube was vox harmonies IIRC.

Hey Chucky, a violin solo over the middle 8 would be nice  :thumb-up:

I uploaded a better quality version to Zilthys ftp site yesterday so PM her to get access, this is the complete song, PM Peter H Boar to request a mix with various tracks included/excluded.

Post by: rnolan on July 10, 2014, 01:43:19 AM
Hey Zilthy, converting it to MP3 has slowed it down ?  If you are going/want to change/compress it from the 48MB 44.1k 16 bit .wav then .flac would be better (allegedly lossless), MP3 are just the worst format (even higher bit rate MP3s) (along with Apple iTunes .acc of course, they are just as bad if not worse).  The main reason I wanted it up as a .wav is so it could be decent resolution, I'd prefer 48k 24bit but the version I ftp'ed has been dithered to 44.1k 16bit for writing to CD (.cda) and is probably a format that most can listen to.
Cheers R

Hey Zilthy, sincere apologies, I remembered it being a little faster but just compared it to original file and it's not so bad... Sounds ok through the truths and seems it is that slow.

Well, anyhow, just for the backing track/work template, sound quality is irrelevant...

It's only used as a guide... We solo on top of it, save the actual solo in .wav and send it to whoever is mixing the project.
That person will be using the high quality backing track for the final mix of course...   8)

Correct.

As usual, send the solo 'only' in .wav, and an mp3 with your solo in the backing track (for reference).

OK guys I´ve got parts to shred over  C:-)
Parts are in simple mp3

Record your solo part in .wav though (44.1Hz/16bit or 44.1Hz/24bit)
When you finished send me the solo separate in .wav
And an mp3 of your solo mixed in the backing, so I have an idea of where I need to fit it in

Parts available:
An intro part (only 1 available of course)
A verse part
A Bridge part
An 8-bar solo part
And an ending solo part (again only 1 available of course)

If somebody can give me a list and email addresses of people that need to shred on which part, I'll send them out.
If someone wants to play rhythm pig let me know also, I'll have to make a backing with and without rhythm guitars then.
If someone wants to do vocals, also let me know.

Hey MJMP, you can also import the drums (L/R) and my guitar (L/R) into a stereo track each, I'm pretty sure Cuebase can do that.  Protools stores a stereo tracks audio files as 2 separate files (as are these as they were recorded stereo to a stereo track). I don't know for sure (Peter?) but I suspect Cuebase does the same. Oh and they are 48khz 24bit BTW  :whoohoo!:

Hey Peter, Mmm not sure, I could play another but that one captured the emotion (for me) of loosing a child, and it was a moment in time.
An idea I had for the intro was to have the bass doing a chugyish 1/8 note kind of thing under it building with the guitar, but it's all yours my friend  :thumb-up:

I still have to look what I'm going to do for/with the intro, but I'm first recreating the drums to MIDI again, so I can easily adjust the drums where needed based on the shredding parts I'm receiving.

If al the shredders can e-mail their e-mail address to mine (peterAT thegrannyattic DOTcom), I can send out the parts to shred over.  O0

I don't know guys.

I'm still waiting for the email addresses, to send the backings to, from most that were originally interested.  :???:

Well, I am finally not working 70+ hours a week, and have vacation this coming week, so will get my stuff done.   Hopefully still room, if not, sorry I missed it.  Going to do it anyway though. :D

Hey Zilthy, it's all still open, just PM your email and the mix you want to Peter and he'll send you the backing tracks to play to.  Enjoy the break  :thumb-up: , 70+ hours takes it out of you.
Cheers R

Lady & gentlemen,

Is this thing dead in the water?

So far I've received 4 requests for the backing track, and only 1 shredder has provided a solo yet :???: :???: :???:

Well, work did not slow down as expected, but now I am on vacation for two weeks.  I do not plan on doing a solo, but I *did* manage to start laying down some tracks today, hopefully they will fit in somewhere. :D

I do have another project that I need to finish before Christmas, but I also plan on finishing what I am working on for this during the holidays. :)
