Wooo! :whoohoo!: My band had the opportunity to rehearse a few songs on a huge stage a few nights ago in an auditorium that was absolutely packed with empty seats. We were actually there to track the drums for our EP, but the experience just wasn't complete without the full P.A. treatment! 10,000 watts for the subs, and 20,000 a side for the arrays; all Crown poweramps. No kidding, there were two racks taller than I am of just poweramps in them. :o So after running through our songs, we got to hear them played back to us from the seats. And wow. I only brought my Crate combo amp and had it mic'ed up; our bassist went Direct. We didn't bring our normal gig gear since we were really there to track the drums, which btw sounded GREAT! We went home that night with some killer drum tracks to start our EP with and the giddyness of feeling our music having that much power. And here is a small vid clip.

Man, that must have been amazing, a 50,000 watt PA to play with, amazing man, :amaze:
I have repaired a Crown K1 amp before, as far as I can remember it could go down to 2 ohms per channel to deliver a couple of thousand watts. Great amps!
The biggest PA I have ever played through was a mere 8K, :-[
50,000 watts of power is only 47dbW, uh,,, thats not loud enough,
50,000 watts of power....and it's pushing overload.
Sorry couldn't help myself. A little Sammy Hagar. :metal:
Nice to see another midwesterner!
Ok so can you guys download and play that attached file? I couldnt :( I only got a 60K file that didnt do shit! jeje
Nothing like headroom :thumb-up: , I quite like the crown amps also >:D
That sounded really good,nice song!!!

Not sure why Stan (bassist/vox) rendered it to that particular file, but I have a program called VLC that handles it for me. I tried opening it with Quicktime and some others without luck.
Thanks for kind words! Short story: we had our EP "done" except the post-production (and some of you may have heard it as I leaked it out here and there before post production) but I had to sack the drummer due to his inability to commit to rehearsals and such. Life gets in the way sometimes and while I understand completely, I had to move the band forward. So as luck would have it, we found a new drummer who happened to live only about 3 miles away from me! After playing with the new guy, it was obvious to us that we should just re-record our EP since it wasn't officially released yet anyway.....so that's where we are now. Get on with rerecording and finishing this EP so we can get on with the next steps. :banana-rock:
I know what those files are, the problem is that I just download is a 60K file (the size of a small pic) and not a big file like of a video. Nobody else has this problem?
worked fine for me.
Hey El, the file is 15.5 MB, so somethings wrong for you download ?? I just downloaded it no problem, I'll play it later. Using a flash file format (.flv) is a bit strange  and VLC seems to be the least fussy about flv files. Which BTW are a major security problem, malformed flv files are a very common attack vector, as are pdf files.
Mmm for such a large file, it was just a teaser. Sounded great IMO :thumb-up: , new drummer cooks !!!
Dont know why but today it downloaded correctly. Nice!
Well we are having an El Ninio weather pattern LOL.
I've played the Ulster Hall in Belfast which is a prestigious venue. I'm sure the PA they had that night as at least 10,000. Not that you notice any of that shit onstage. Just monitors and your own kit on stage really isn't it? Unless you jump off the stage or something. Had I jumped off the stage in the Ulster Hall I'd broken some limbs, it was tall. Nice wooden floor as well!!
And not to get to blown away with numbers, to make something twice as loud (to your ears (i.e +3db)) you need 10 times the power.
So 50,000w is twice as loud (to your ears) as 5,000w, or... 1w > 10w > 100w > 1,000w > 10,000w > 100,000w.
It's very nice to have that much headroom though but that's a very different conversation.
True
And I doubt it was up full blast anyways. Most places have volume restrictions now days.
Oh they definitely didn't have the system cranked all up. IIRC, the sound guy said something about being only close to about 50%. Sure didn't need any more than that!
Man had he cranked that SOB your balls would have fallen off!! So it's as well he didn't other wise you'd be ball-less :)
and deaf
But still it's a cool brag :thumb-up:
IIRC at around 147 - 150 db your skin burns off (remember it's logarithmic), so 500,000w is twice as loud (again +3db) as 50,000w
Alright professor
but it sounds really cool to say 50,000watts!! :banana-trip: like this guy

Hahahahaha
I'm going to laugh at my own joke
Hey RG, it does sound cool, it's a serious amount of power >:D , trying to remember how much power Cerwin Vega used to do the Earth Quake thing years ago (to go with the movie IIRC)
