Hi From Turkey - Istanbul
« on: Time Format »

I've been writing here for a while. Maybe I introduced myself a little in some posts but as a Topic, here I am; I need to write someting with my apologies, 'cuz I need to concentrate something other than terrible economic situation and politics between USA and Turkey in recent days which will effect our present and future life.

Born in 1978 Turkey. Marriage Turned back from the rim. Human Resources Specialist in a global Construction Company in Turkey. Listening to 1980's Hard Rock - Metal and pop music (I can't deny my childhood). Slayer is (was) my sacred asylum and Metallica is still the greatest Icon for me. Last year I toured in CA and FL Keywest. I visited Jeff Hanneman's grave when cruising from San Diego to Los Angeles. I emotionally exploded when I found his gravestone.  (I recorded the moment) I spent more than one hour by his memorial stone. Because He meant many things for me since the day I saw their pictures and start listening to them in 90's and finally playing them a few years later with Raiders themed apparels. I established a tribute band with 25 songs of set list.

I also visited Ronnie James Dio's memorial sarcophagus in LA. It was a very relaxing place after terrible traffic in LA. While I was playing my various solo covers with my phone attached to sarcophagus, A lady came to me and asked If she can take a picture of the tomb. I said ''sure'', Asked me again, If I am his relative.. ( what.. me... ? How I really wish that) I said ''No I am just a fan from Turkey'' She was very surprised. She said ''We came here to visit our cousin and her mother in the parcel on the otherside. Maybe you know her, Carrie Fisher'' ( whatttt are youu taking aboutt). Yes their tomb were very near to Dio. Later I realized that Also Lemmy Killmisters's memorial is on the other side of Dio.

Another interesting thing was when I was walking in the wharf of Santa Barbara I recognized Ken Tamplin in the crowd who was the vocalist for the band Shout in 80's, Now he has an online vocal academy showing up in youtube, I used to practise his methods during that year. It was very a shocking moment for me and for him sure, somebody from Turkey recognized in the town for the first time. We talked for a while and took pictures.

Those CA days was a great experience to me, I loved Key West, completely a different world. I saw Metallica show in Miami. I feel enjoying the life for a while, in a relatively peacefull atmosphere, kind people, organized traffic. I don't know how do you feel while living. I know touring and living are completely different things. I know you had some social security and healthcare issues. But in my country, things are going worst. Last year USD currency was 3,50. Today it says 5,31 due to issues with Iran and USA. And predictions It will be 7 or more.

Anyway, Music and stage is our last asylum, I hope ''I’ll be beating this guitar 'til the day I die'' ...

Cheers.

Absolutely, There is. There were many metal festivals in previous years. Audience is passionate. When our economy and terror issues were stable, Metallica and other big bands did not hesitate to come here. You can understand what the Turkish audience is from one single song and video. That is Creeping Death from Metallica. All the stadium begin to shout ''Die, Die, Die'' in the exact time and later James closes his ears with both hands from the noise.

Hey Hanneman213, it's great to have you here on the depot  :thumb-up:  , Turkey seems to have allot of issues currently, like killing kurds (why  :dunno: ) and selling oil for the IS morons WTF, but lets not get (geo)political. My take from an Australian perspective is the dictator who's taken over Turkey has done some deep reaching damage to your country (and if I understand correctly, killed or imprisoned allot of decent people  ).  I find it all very sad, cos I like Turks and I particularly like Turkish food  :whoohoo!: .On the "worship" front though, each to their own, to me they are all just people (albeit very talented), but if you want to put them on a pedestal and they inspire you in some special way, well then all power to you.

Hey rnolan. Thank you for your kind words.
Kurdish issue is very very historical aprox 200 years of confrontation, Its not about just '' killing somebody without reason'' in summary. Yes, there's a struggle for 200 years maybe more, with state (Ottoman empire and republic) and local fedual kurdish land lords. But last 100 years with assistance of some ''unknown hands'' there were issues in our independence war against invasion by Europeans. Last 30 years, Militaristic organization (PKK) established through kurds ( I call them terrorists) They tried to control geography with the assistance of ''unknown hands'' by also monitoring drug trafficing in Europe and Middle East. Its very very detailed and loong issue.

Unfortunately Existing President was biased with those ''unknown hands'' thats why he had relations with Those middle east based terrorists. And he is ruling over 16 years with nonsecular- ignorance supported motivation. Our lands, economical domestic factors sold to foreigners and we became producing nothing. And now we are in a terrible situation. Todays currency USD/TL 5.44 - Yesterday 5.25

Hey Hanneman213, thanks for that brief update, really helps my understanding  of what is, as you say, much more complicated (and I do care).  My ex wife is Greek, yet another dimension to it all  .Anyway, it's great to have you on here with us all  :thumb-up: :whoohoo!: ,  I/we obviously can't do much about the economic issues, but I/we can help (to some extent) with your gear stuff etc  :metal: .cheers R
