MP-1 Classic - Clear/Restore
« on: Time Format »

Hi All - aside from restoring the 39 factory presets, is there a way to perform a complete clear/restore on the MP-1 Classic?  Just picked one up a few days ago.  Thanks!  Joe

Hi Joe P,
Have you restored the 39 factory presets already? I'm not sure what you are asking as far as performing a complete clear to the Classic.

Hi Harley, yes... already restored the factory 39 presets.  Just curious if there is anything else I should do in order to bring it back to the exact settings it had when it left the factory.  The MP-1 Classic appears to be a very different animal compared to my original MP-1's.  Still getting used to it.  Finally found one in mint condition.  Do we know what year(s) the MP-1 Classic was produced?  And roughly how many units ADA made?  Took me a long time to find one.

Hi Joe P,
Restoring the factory presets does put it back to the exact settings from the factory. And yes, the Classic is a very different version from the original.
I'm not completely certain of this, but I think the Classic was introduced in 1992. I don't know how many were made though, but there were not nearly as many as the original. That's why they are so hard to find, and most of the time, very over-priced in the used market.

There's probably a date on the PCB (PCB revision) that would give you a ball park date, we didn't get classics in Australia, I didn't know they existed until others here talked about them, I need one to round out my collection and also to hear what the fuss is about  ;)

Hey Harley, could it be it was mid '94 when they came out?

Mid -94 was when ADA disappeared, wasn't it? The Classic was introduced the year after the original was discontinued. I know I picked up my first one in '94 and they had already been out for a while.

I think you're right, they did disappear in early '96. That was shortly after the Music Man EVH model guitar hit the market IIRC.
I know I was using the Classic the year before they vanished with my old band,(Band Of Heathens), because I took the original MP-1 out of the rack, and the Classic replaced it. Everyone liked the sound of that one better.
