Hi All
I've added (mp3,flac,wav,aif) files to the permitted files list.
I also increased the attachment size limit fro 2MB to 10MB per file/post
So you can attach e.g.  4 x 2.5 MB, 2 x 5 MB or 1 x 10MB
Cheers Richard

Hey Richard,

Is there a way to attach or post videos, other than youtube?

    Thanks

Hey Harley, quick answer, probably, what do you want to attach ?
Longer answer
Maybe  :dunno: , depends how you want to do it.  If you want to attach a different file type (than what's currently configured), that's reasonably easy to do.  I think the SMF forum program just blocks/allows on file extension (ideally it's smarter than that  :dunno: ). Obviously if someone wants to open the attachment they'll need the appropriate application for the file type. I wouldn't like/prefer not to open up .flv though (flash).  It's one of the most abused and used as an attack vector file types around. Shame as it's a useful video format.  We are getting closer though to no flash (.flv) as HTML5 get going...
Youtube seems to have embedding support with SMF (what the depot is built on, probably a HTML thing ( youtube  )), so you can embed the video in the post rather than attach it.  The main difference (apart from how it affects backend storage) is that guests can't see or access attachments, but I suspect (never tested it btw) they can click on embedded youtube  :dunno: .

Hey Richard,

It's a WMV file. I think what I'm going to be doing as far as videos will probably be done on Windows Movie Maker, but I'm not at that point yet where I'm ready to shoot home videos. I may end up using a different program depending on the cameras I buy.
I don't know any way to embed a WMV clip though.

I like these ideas, but just to make sure:
Has storage and network bandwidth requirements been discussed with Dante?

Hey Harley
wmv, mp4 and avi file types now added to permitted attachments.  Kim may have some ideas re embedding but it's probably better from a storage perspective to keep them as attachments (depends how SMF and mySQL handle them  :dunno: ).

Hey Van, overall storage is fine, we have unlimited (allegedly (whatever unlimited actually means)).  Bandwidth shouldn't be an issue as opening a video attachment is the same as the current audio attachments (downloads the file to your PC) then you open it with appropriate local application.  Embedded files (e.g. youtube) are a bit different, I think there's a youtube plug in installed as part of SMF which plays the video  :dunno: .

I haven't changed the file size restrictions, but they are fairly generous (well for audio, video can get large...)
