Title: Marshall Valvestate 8100
Post by: Neal Saenz on March 17, 2016, 05:19:11 PM
This is a single tube preamp set up and I think the tube maybe getting old and weak. The head seems to have lost it's low end rumble and now all I get is a weak hi gain sound from it. And would a thick tang Sovtek would bring back that low end rumble while not sacrificing too much gain?

Does sound like the tube needs replacing. Whatever tube you pick get it both Balanced and Matched (http://adadepot.com/index.php?topic=547.0). I'd go with a Mullard long plate, but then they're my favourite tube (no secret there LoL).

Most of the gain is made by a pair of led diodes, the tube just warms up the sound.

So MJMP does it sound like it's more than just the tube then ?

No i do think it's the tubes since BC doesn't talk about gain loss, just tone loss.
