Title: Bits 'n' bobs and Mods!!
Post by: rabidgerry on September 23, 2014, 02:12:19 AM
Hi again - (I realise this thread covers different areas however I figured I put it all in one new topic)

My front input jack seems a little bit intermittent, should I
replace this or clean it?  I personally have never had good
experiences cleaning jack sockets, it never really helps but I'm
willing to listen to anyone's advice here.  I think I have the right
sort of jack for this should I need to replace it but if someone
has a picture of one with the correct layout of tabs I can make a
comparison.

I have these and another type with different tab arrangement

next NOISE

My MP1 quietly hums, is this normal?  When I touch it it gets
quieter, it's not loud but it's definitley humming.
How big a job is it replacing the transformer?

Will this make it quieter if I did?

How many mods can be done to help quieten the mp1s noisefloor?  I
thought there was one but there appear to be a few.  Are there any
better than others?  Are these recommended only for 3TM people?

next GAIN

I like the idea of having a little more gain, however I'm not sure I
want anything that sounds like a Triple Rectifier purely because I
don't think anyone I am influenced by has ever employed one of these
to make any of the sounds that I love (did Judas Priest??  I don't
think so).  Is there hi gain mods that I can do

It depends a bit on what input jack you have. Now the jacks you have wont work,i think they are too short. Can you take a pic of the input jack and mail it to me?

As for noise, you can do the noise mod if you want. That usually helps.

As for gain, the 3TM will give you the sound you want,i use one for years now and it does the old 80's metal sound perfect.
