Title: MP1 and Metallica
Post by: rabidgerry on August 01, 2016, 07:49:04 AM
Came across this for any Metallica fans

Not really into them myself but I was interested in the fact they used MP1 preamps.  I knew Kirk Hammet used it but now it appears so did James Hetfield.  Hope this interests someone on here.

Yeah, they both used MP-1 back in the days.

I never heard about Hetfield using an MP-1, I did know that Hammet used one for a while. The only ADA gear that I ever heard Hetfield used, was an ADA 2FX in his effects rack.

I never knew that he used it also.

I prefer Kirk's attitude to gear over Hetfields, based on this article.  Kirk seems more open minded to stuff.

I remember reading somewhere long time ago that they used MP-1s, too.  And it also said that they used them for the Clean guitar stuff on "...Justice" and I just went "whoop-dee-f**king-doo."   We didn't pore over Metallica's stuff back then for their Clean guitar prowess.  >:D
So this info is a bit different.....

Yeah I know, people are all listening to Metallica for their notorius clean tones................................... :poop:

No sir!

This is quite good as it appears to be from the horses mouth, so that's them telling us what they were using.  Good to know it wasn't just the hair metal guy's using MP1. Not that it really matters who used it, but what we can do with it ourselves.

Got a great Judas Priest British Steel - Point of Entry era tone last night for example.  Pure accident.  Perhaps a little more distortion than theirs but definitely in the ball park.  Sounded good for "Grinder" and "United" for example.
