Title: New ADA B200s came home!
Post by: Iperfungus on January 27, 2017, 08:14:10 AM
Yes guys...the warmest power amp on this planet is in da house!

Just a quick question for tech experts...
I do not have my 2x12 cabinet yet...is it safe to turn on the B200s just to see if it powers up even if no load is connected to its outputs?
On the manual it is reported that the unit should automatically shut down channel/channels if nothing is connected and dummy load is not needed, but just to be sure I don't make it explode immediately!  :banana-skipping-rope-smiley-e

Thanks!

Ok, after a quick consultation with the Mighty MJMP, I turned it on: it lights up friendly!

Now I just need the 2x12 cab...

These ADA amps are not easy to find...Microtubes also less than B200s...
Mosvalve stuff is good, as far as I know...
Do you need a power amp for your backup rack?

:whoohoo!: Do you have any other speakers you can plug it into in the mean time  :dunno: >:D . There's posts elsewhere here re the B200 output, you can be safe with 4, 8 or 16 ohm loads.  IIRC it delivers ~ 120w p/c into 4, ~80w p/c into 8 and 55ish into 16 so just be careful with the vol knobs LoL...

Unfortunately I don't have any other speaker here...  :dunno:
Just my Rivera Pubster combo and its 10'' speaker...but I would not connect the B200s to such a small speaker from a 25W amp...

I found a CRATE Powerblock near me for $120. The very next day, somebody bought my Boss GT-8 for $120

It was like getting a free amp  :thumb-up:

BTW: The powerblock is awesome with the ADA.

Hi guys!

After a while, I'm back!  :thumb-up:

I'm back...but my B200s died.
Some days ago, while powering it off (with both volumes to 0), I heard a BUMP! noise from the speaker and something on the B channel is gone (probably a transistor...or something close...).

I've no time to attempt to repair it and there's none close to me who could do the job.
Furthermore, the job itself wouldn't have a reasonable price...since I paid 100 euro for the B200s.

I decided to sell it as an item to be repaired and an italian guy contacted me already.
We'll see.
I hope he will sign to the Depot as well.

In the meanwhile, I bought from a friend a full tube made in Italy stereo power amp: 60 + 60 watts of stereo tube power (4xEL34, 3x12AX7).
It's an Advance Tube Technologies TA '70 and it's a shame that people outside Italy wouldn't get one...

Yeah Max, they make some nice gear in Italy, MezzaBarba is a hot amp, no doubt.

I keep my eyes open for B200S, and T100S, as soon as I see one, I'm on it!

Eheheh....I know Pierangelo Mezzabarba (Masotti Amps, Mezzabarba Amps): he's a very good crazy guy!  :thumb-up:

Also Brunetti and Guru's (Cicognani) products are widely appreciated out of Italy.

I just picked this one up a few weeks ago from a buddy who's another Craigslist fanatic like me.  I plugged it in and wasn't jazzed, too shrill.  I worked on my patches a bit, plugged it into a Marshall 4x12 at rehearsal and wow!  It was warm, fat, transparent; sounded better than my MosValve!  Doesn't get as loud as the MosValve does, but I'm loving the sound I'm getting out of this unit!

Good score Chip  :thumb-up: , it'll do ~124 w/chan into 4 ohms.  I don't think I've ever needed to run mine flat out, usually around 3/4 and I get hassled to turn down LoL.

Yeah, maybe I'm not setting mine up right or I'm running too small of a cab setup, just my 2x12, but I'm finding it lacking in volume at times.  Live this is never an issue since we're always miked, but our singer (a 5' 3" Filipino gal) is easily the loudest I've ever worked with and I have to crank it just to be heard over her!

Is the 2x12 a stereo cab?

Mono

Hey Chip, you could rewire the cab to be stereo and get both channels going.  The B200s will handle 4, 8 or 16 ohm loads without a problem.  The higher the impedance the less output.  I have one ADA slant Split Stack cab wired to be either mono or stereo.  It has 2 x 75w 16 ohm celestians in it.  Works a treat with B200s or Carvin TS100 or Carvin DCM200L.

Do you happen to know what speakers are in there (impedance) en how they are wired up (series or parallel)?
