One of my MP-1s doesn't respond to MIDI. If I change the MIDI channel to omni, it will lock up and I have to do a factory reset to make it work again.

Mmmm never had this problem before. Maybe a few tips, disconnect and reconnect both IDC connectors going from the main to the midi board (with the grey multicable).
If that doesn't work reset the RAM memory by pulling out the RAM chip (either 5864 or 6264 chip) out of the socket (be careful that you don't bend the pins)
Let me know how that goes.
