DEPOT NEWS: We may be down briefly

Guys & Gals,

I have been parking this forum behind my personal website for this entire time, and now it's causing me some issues behind the scenes. Not to worry, I have purchased a dedicated hosting plan for this forum to exist which will solve all my issues eventually. Unfortunately, the 'move' to another server is going to create a bunch of new issues for me too

All I ask is that you please be patient while I fix everything I screw up during the move. The Depot may be down for a day or two, or it may be here and just be all screwed up temporarily, just be warned. I probably won't 'flip the switch' for another week or so, and I'll give a proper warning in the scrolling NEWS box at the top of the HOME page.

Hey Dante, I was wondering how long it could stay there  :???:   If you copy everything across (maybe easiest to do a backup restore to the new server ?) and test with a different DNS entry, when it's all good it should then just be a quick DNS change to the new servers IP address (that's the theory  :thumb-up: ).

Thanks heaps for buying the hosting plan  :metal: , your the man

Let me know if you want any help with testing etc.  My normal day gig is ICT Security consultant/adviser so maybe some use/help for the move ?

Cheers Richard

Dante,

Your effort are greatly appreciated.
After having been down for so long, we can weather out a few more days I think  :thumb-up:

y'know, that's the theory all righty. My inclination is to leave it where it is and just move my DanteMutti.com site away to the new server. The Depot will be WAY harder to move, and there is unlimited disk space there....which is good. It just costs $$($120/yr) and I was hoping to avoid that.

This fight ain't over yet, I just wanted to give y'all a heads up. You'll get a warning when it's time to brace for impact.

That does sound like a better strategy, move the easier one, I'd still go for the backup restore idea though as it will test (if you haven't tested it already) the restore (and in 20 years in IT I've never seen a restore work properly the first time...)

I can't help with the $s just now (as I've been out of work since last October (new (crap) government and then xmas, not good for contractors)) but when I land a new gig happy to chip in.

Cheers Richard

Really don't want this site to disappear again!!!

   :hair-out:

so Yep, I'm in.
Plenty more could be done to raise a few $$$ for up-keep of the site as well.   :ada-big:

While I appreciate the offers fellas, I would take any measures necessary to avoid charging the members of this forum to use it.

I'll figure it out, no worries.

I've received so much help here, I'd feel obliged to chip in.  :homer:

Guess what? I have disconnected my root domain from my unlimited hosting account and the Depot is now running on her own in that account :banana-rock:

I had to monkey around with some of the settings to get the theme, smileys, and attachments to show up. I also blew up the forum a couple times in the process, but hey, it's back now!!  :banana-upsidedown:
