Title: NAD Peavey Classic 60/60
Post by: Kim on February 15, 2017, 06:13:48 PM
First, I wanna say   :whoohoo!:

because I scored a Peavey Classic 60/60 for cheap, and I've been wanting to get a real tube poweramp back in my rig for some time now.
Did I mention that  :whoohoo!: ?

And   :whoohoo!: ?

Yeah it's a little on the burly side at about 30 lbs in a 3U space, but not an absolute bear to handle like the 4U poweramp Me$a 2:95 or Mar$hall Monoblocs.  I used to have the mono Classic 120 at one time that was nearly identical inside and out.  Obvious difference was mono vs. stereo (one output tran vs. two)

Pretty stoked to be getting back to that 6L6 power I always liked.  And quite literally for "pennies on the dollar" when compared to the Marshall/Mesa poweramps.    :thumb-up:

Don't know why the pics attached themselves upside-down though...they are in fact right side up before attaching them.  :dunno:

Nice score! Let us know how it sounds with the MP.

There's one for sale here locally that I might snag up. 25% of the cost of my 295. I might snag it and see if it's got what I need. Save a space/weight and sell my 295 for to pay it off and get some cash as well.  Gotta feed that G.A.S.  O0

I remember those, nice score Kim :thumb-up:

Those and the Classic 50/50 seem to be the most popular of the Peavy poweramps.

Ahhh, the good old days of rack mania

Didn't the 50/50 have EL84 tubes? I thought Jur had one of those back in the day.

Yes, the 50/50 was a 2U and had a quad of el84 tubes and I do remember Jur had one back then.   I thought about getting a 50/50 but I didn't want to chance that I might not like it so much...

Those and the Classic 50/50 seem to be the most popular of the Peavey poweramps.

I've never looked for myself inside a Classic 50/50, but the Classic 120 I had before and now this Classic 60/60 really are Peavey hallmarks of simplicity, build quality, and straight up bang-for-the-buck. These "almost-vintage" poweramps are reminders that the Peavey stuff were once the real workhorses of that era.   You never had to worry about "opening them up and letting all the Magic Smoke out" ....unless of course you didn't get the impedance stuff right or some other blatant abuse that no tube amp would stand for.

Also just picked up a gently used Anvil 4U case locally for $75 to house this Classic 60/60 in.  So that's a total of $325 that I'd consider very well spent...or could've been put towards less than half of a used Mesa purchase and still no damn rack case.     Not knocking Mesa, they are awesome but I can't afford the brand of awesome they offer.

Rock on Kim :metal:

One question though, does that amp have a bias adjustment on it or will you have to take it to someone when it's time to change the tubes?

It's "fixed bias" but can be easily modded to make that adjustment.  I'll get that done inside there when it's time to change the tubes. :)

I thought so, it's built like an old power amp. Just in a rack case.

Well....just to go with the flow here, I'm looking at a pair of Peavey Classic 50/50's for about $700.

They both have 6L6's in them now, but maybe I can convert them over to EL-34's.

    Hmmmmm...tubes...

Are you sure about being 50/50 Classics?  The 60/60 Classics have the 6L6 tubes, while the 50/50s have EL84 tubes.....

Well I was thinking that too?

They are 50/50's.  They look like they've been pampered too, pretty good shape, other than some mild rack rash.

The price seems a little steep for those when combined with shipping, but both supposedly have 6L6's in them.

The question remains, if they have 6L6's in them, can they be modified to take EL84's?

Confirmed:

These have EL34's in them, and I just bought both of them. One for the Classic rig, and one for the MP-2 rig.

I think things are going to get a little noisy around here in about a week or so...

One is due here by Saturday, the other one by Monday.

I'm shopping around for a new phone now. Mine is so obsolete, even Samsung doesn't support it any more. I may be going with Verizon since Family Mobile seems to have taken a dive, so hopefully, I'll have a phone that can get some good clear pics, that I can transfer to my laptop.
