Rehearsing with MikeB last night brought home a salient reminder that memory batteries don't last forever  . Mike plugged in his MP1 only to discover the battery had died and all his patches were gone...  :dunno: . What's worse is he had just got it tweaked the way he liked it and unfortunately hadn't backed the patches up yet (doh). So it (battery) lasted 30 years ish (no a bad run I spose), it was probably one of the first MP1's in Australia. Mike quickly programmed a couple of patches based on my old ones to get us through the rehearsal so all was fine, but a timely reminder and not optimal... How old is your battery, do you need to replace it (or better do the battery mod), can you get new batteries, have you backed up your patches (or written them down (is what we used) ? etc.

Well you can always check the voltage of the battery,if it's below 2.7V it's time to change it.

Would be nice to have a low battery warning (another thing to include in MP3  :thumb-up: ) as taking it out of ones live rack to test it.... I spose you could do a yearly maintenance check.
So is >2.7v the same for MP2 ?, time I tested mine I suspect.

Also what battery do they need MP1/2, MB1 and are they the same ? Seems like a dumb question but I hadn't thought about it before.

Do you think there's a market for a Low Battery Warning LED Mod?  That should be a pretty simple circuit!

Don't know if there's a market for it, but it's a nice idea. But they last a very long time. MP1 manual says up to 10 years, MikeB's went much longer, at least double as his is my original MP1 (one of the first in Oz way back when).

I still have the original battery in my MB-1 bought in 1990 (if my memory serves me correctly)

Haha, about that. I bought an MP2 today for $50, has a data error. Guy hasn't turned it on for 4 years and it shows. Popped the top, attached my multimeter and it read 0.2v. So yeah, time to replace it I think. Might help with the data error and get this thing operational.
