  • Gotta Love That MP-1

Today I was mucking around with my gear, including my Carvin TS100 (have it set on the 50 watt channel due to the fact you cannot run this in bridged mode (it's half broken)) and as usual, I had the thing cranked up and let my MP-1 control the volume.

I decided "You know what, I like it loud and have never really heard this things true power..." and cranked everything up all the way. I had a guitar stand that sits in front of my two 4x12s (the sit one on top of the other), one marshall 1960a loaded with celestian g-12t75s, and the other a bugera 4x12 with vintage 30 type clones in them (they sound alright...)....

The stand fell over.

The stand literally just fell over, onto the ground. It's VERY study, and never falls over if you bump it.

The walls in my basement shook violently, pictures were tilted, lighting fixtures rattled, a ceiling panel shook loose a bit, and shit fell off every shelf near the amp.

For anyone asking "Is a 50 watt amp loud enough for a gig?", my answer is; Hell yes. More than loud enough.

Absolutely, And both my TS100 channels work  >:D :whoohoo!: , it's a kick ass amp, only thing I don't like about it is the weight.

Ha ha ha!! I love this highly scientific experiment!!

Now maybe people will understand why I called my rig the Earthquaker, and it's only 50w per side  :thumb-up:

LOL yikes!  I want to recreate this (my mischievous Mythbusters alter ego that is) but I cannot recreate my apartment lease if I do.  That and don't want some neighbors keeping watch on me.  That HAD to have been loud in the basement.  Now if the Gulf Coast had basements to try this with...

First anecdote, 1972 Marshall 50 lead amp, in a basement in Sydney, all full tilt (including bass, drums and big ride cymbal), the hammer anvil and stirrup in my ear disconnected for a few (probally seconds but felt like a minute), weird, very floaty...
2nd, back yard gig in an old saw mill village in the country, again fully cranked, could be heard clearly 13km (>8 miles) away. (forest all the way but IIRC, no wind to speak of)

To make it a "little" more scientific, Jarod may have hit (in amongst all the sounds that come from a guitar hitting the ground  >:D ) the resonant frequency of the room or things within it (e.g. walls).  As a kid my dad gave me a variable oscillator to play around with, I had it at really low volume and when I hit the resonant frequency of the wall, it went spastic, bigggg vibrations (a bit scarey I remember), so I quickly changed the frequency....
