Title: I got a MIDIBUDDY! (Still have questions)
Post by: VoxG2 on March 03, 2017, 06:45:07 PM
Well the quest is over! I found a pedal I can use with my MP-1. I do have a few questions if no one minds?

   1. Do I need a 5 pin to 7 pin MIDI cable or will I need 7 pins on both side for phantom power? The pedal does have a 7 pin out port. It's the 128P (P for Phantom)
   2. What MIDI channel does the pedal need to be set to to work on the MP-1, I assume the MP-1 default is 1?

Again, thanks to all of you for the support...hopefully I will learn enough to help someone else on here someday! :-P

If your MidiBuddy has the 7 pin Out, then a midi cable with 7 pins on both ends will work.
This Hosa 7 pin midi cable (https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ADA725BULK?adpos=1o8&creative=54989267161&device=c&matchtype=&network=s&product_id=ADA725BULK&gclid=CI6hzdPsu9ICFQyNaQodljsBuA) is what I use; I've had it for about 17 years now and still going strong.

There are DIP switches near the Midi ports to select the functionality and Midi Channel of the MidiBuddy.  If you don't have the Owners Manual, you can check it out how to set those switches HERE (http://www.rolls.com/pdf/M_MP128.pdf)

Hey y'all, I tried to connect the ROLLS ac adapter to the phantom power on the back of the MP-1 and it doesn't fit. :-(
I do have a standard One Spot ac adapter. you think it's ok to use it? Thanks.

It'll be fine to use another power supply that fits the Phantom Power jack on the back of the MP-1.  I have some generic thing that has multiple voltage selections, and interchangeable tips.

The MidiBuddy will work on 9v but it likes 12v better, so try to match the new power supply (with a tip that fits properly) with the Rolls one in voltage and polarity.

Aha! Yes...thank you. I wonder if I can just "adapt" the Rolls to fit the ADA.

You could if you change the dc connector.I think ADA uses the 2.5mm and I think the Rolls is a 2.1mm.

A friend is mailing me this for free. You think it will work with the MIDIBUDDY at the floor? http://www.rocktron.com/rocktron-midi-cable-5-to-7-pin.html

      And thank you!!

That plug should work, didn't even know these existed, you learn every day  ;D

The second question I leave to Kim to answer.

Seems that should work as long as the power adapter tip fits and all. You'll still need to orient that cable so the power is transmitted down to the MidiBuddy and not up to the MP-1.  But I've no experience using that particular style midi cable though, nor do I personally know anyone who has.  Let us know how it goes!   :thumb-up:

....aaaaand it was tested and it was perfect!! I just plugged the adapter in from the pedal. When I order the phantom power adapter for the Rolls I'll use that, but for now I'm good. Thanks again for all your help!!

I remember several years ago I modified an AC adapter for my ADA MC-1. If I remember right, the barrel plug that fits the ADA is a "N" type plug, but I forgot the polarity connections. I'll have to go find it and look at it.
