So who has an STD-1?
« on: Time Format »

Holy crap!

I just picked up a Rocktron Prochorus and could not be happier with a chorus... VERY close to the MP-1 and Gallien Krueger 2000cpl/240rl chorus I've been dying to hear in a dedicated unit.  Lots of options and it seems to step all over the Carl Martin Chorus XII which has been a favorite of mine for months now...

However, after scouring the internet, it seems the Rocktron is the "poor man's" version of the ADA STD-1, used by Allan Holdsworth.

Anyone here either have one or use one before?  The Carl Martin actually cuts some high end giving it a dark and warm feel... the Rocktron Prochorus does not, but it's still has a dark and warm feel like the GK stuff...

I'd love to hear thoughts about the STD-1!!!

I have one,i really like it.It's one of the best chorus units i ever owned.Problem is they are hard to find. For the rest alot of options to dial in.It's also stereo and you can get stereo sounds you just can't get out of any other chorus. If you can find one, grab it,you won't be disapointed.

I'm seriously considering it... the Rocktron is in good hands getting re-capped and cleaned up, and I know a guy on another forum that has the STD-1... if it's anything like the Rocktron, that would be amazing...

Makes me wonder why the Fulltone TERC/Shiva Wave (based on the original Tri-Chorus) is getting so much hype when the Rocktron and STD-1 are still out there... and if ADA or Rocktron will release a rack analog chorus anytime soon.  Maybe I should ask them!   :homer:

Damn this unfortunate timing!  You'll understand why in my next New Guitar Day post.  I would like to eventually like to get one if I get lucky enough.  I just can't justify spending that much on one when my TFX4 (which can maintain 4 distinct settings that I can recall at the push of a button during performance without fiddling too much) can hold its own sound-wise even if it may not be in the same league.

If anyone uses the STD-1 for live performance, could you offer up some of the advantages and or limitations of live use during a normal set?
