I remember that guitar. I tried it out when it was a current item in the music stores

The neck was kind of chunky and the tone was really muffled. It was meant to control the Roland Guitar Synth that was mated to it at the time. I think it was the GR-700

Actually, the trem is made in Germany on this Strat. I believe that and the FTLN were made for Fender by Schaller.

You are correct  :thumb-up: It was designed specifically to control the GR-700 guitar synth

Germans, always throwing around engineering marvels

Roland is a Japanese company.

You know, your post the other day of the Fender Performer got me thinking. I know I mentioned this years ago about having a set of Brian May Burns Tri-sonic pickups, and wanting to get them into a guitar of some kind, or building a guitar around them. For years, I've been toying with the idea of modifying my MIK Fender Showmaster (S-S-S) model to put them in, but it would be complicated when it comes to the electronics, since these guitars are "carved" tops. You can't even get 250K pots with long bushings to go through the top of these guitars, those are only available in 500K.
But, if I cut a custom body shape and got a 24 fret neck for it, that would be a way to go. I like the offset waist of the Performer body, and the dog-ear cutaways. A pick guard could be custom cut for the electronics....hmm

My comment about Germans was referring to your Strat trem design

I know where Roland comes from. I was trying out new gear in Japan about a year before it showed up in California ;)
