JJ 803s for smoother Medium Gain
« on: Time Format »

Hi Guys, I was on the old ADA Forum and a few years ago picked up a stock 1.38  that already has noise mods.

It sounds great Tube Clean  and Pushed Cleans to milder OD  on Dist Settings.

I will be recording with it  and would like to get the Gain  up to about EJ/Gilmour Levels very  clear, asking
a lot from the Unit....

Unit came with  JJ 83s  the shortplates .

Question there is a slight harshness when Dist Channel pushed a bit but sounds much better than most clips- on my  H&K Tubeman  the JJ 803s  made the Gain more clear like a cranked Output Section can on some Amps-  will this do the same on  MP1.

I am recording into CAB  IRs   not speakers except monitoring.

What is clearest Distortion Tube type and brand for this ?

Clearest Mod I heard was  KorB  who did an ENGL MOD  but warmer and clearer than ENGL.

I  am looking for Tube with clear Distortion, Thanks.

There are lots of Tube options and opinions (for now, have a browse through the MP1 section, over time I'll move/copy some of the tube discussion to the new All Things Tube area).  There's also a post where MikeB and I experimented (well no experiment now he's sold...) with an ADA GCS-3 cab sim in the MP1 loop for recording/direct on stage etc., works a treat and you get stereo cab simmed outs..
