Title: Chorus to Vibrato mod .. MB-1
Post by: bcklndt on June 15, 2020, 02:59:41 AM
Does anybody know if it is possible to mod the build in chorus to a vibrato .. so 100% wet signal only.
Would be for my MB-1 but I guess it would be the same for an MP-1.
Are there options as well to make the effect more drastic?
I really like heavy modulating sea sick sounds ..

I'm not aware of any mods that do what you want.  Chorus is a combination of slight delay while subtly modulating (vibrato(ish)) the pitch of the delayed signal.  Akin to mimicking a 12 string i.e. 2 strings tuned the same struck "slightly" differently in time (the very short delay) and spinning (modulating/pitch shifting) slightly differently.Vibrato is a pitch shift, Tremolo is a volume shift.  With your MB1 I'd suggest you use a decent Fx device in one (or both) the Fx loops that can do it.
The way I do it is slightly more elaborate as in I use one of my MP2s (which has tremolo and distortion) on the bridge PU and the MB1 on the neck PU, combine in small mixer add slight stereo delay and Reverb, stereo amp > 2 x cabs.

Vibrato = Chorus with no dry signal.
I think it should be possible on the MB-1, the dry signal needs to be cut out of the mix .. added tweaks for "wetter" effect would be nice too ..

I have a Malekko omicron vibrato pedal that I use with an 18v adaptor for optimal headroom & low end .. that pedal also uses the popular MN3007 BBD chip.
To each his own but I love heavy vibrato on bass .. would be cool to have it available & programmable on the MB-1 ..

I had a look for this and it's not so easy as cutting the original signal.

You could run your pedal in one of the MB1s fx loops and turn it on/off via different patches, you could also change the Fx loop parameters e.g. return level via midi CC with an expression pedal.  To do CC with MB1 you need to install the last EPROM released v2.05.  You can also do master volume control via CC.

The levels can't be changed with midi CC on a MB-1. But you can turn the effect on/off with midi CC.

Hey MJMP, You can change a variety of patch parameters via CC expression pedal on the MB1, setting it up is a little complicated (see previous posts I did on how to do it).  The MB1 also has a global master volume setup which works across all patches via CC expression pedal which is how I control mine (similar to the MP2).

I meant the levels of the loops.

Just use one of the effect loops for that.
Leave the vibrato on
Make a patch with the loop engaged and a path with the loop bypassed.
switch patches to turn the effect on/off.

If you do not use any other effects, then you can close the other loop with a simple short cable, now you can use:
No loops engaged = dry
Loop A engaged = wet only (effect in serial)
Loop A+B engaged = 50/50 (effect in parallel).
