Title: Rocktron Piranha
Post by: Soloist on August 18, 2015, 10:40:37 PM
Hey all, I just picked up a Rocktron Piranha in excellent condition for cheap. Man, this thing has some serious ballz!!
Anyone else ever used or still use one?
The cleans to me are better on the MP1, with my Voodu Valve a close second. Crunch to medium gain the MP1/Jmp1 blended are the best (awesome 80's hair/sleaze metal), but for hi/ultra hi gain the Piranha really shines. The Voodu Valve does great high gain but the Piranha just eats it alive...
My rig has transformed a lot in the past couple years, current line up list in my sig, here's a few images:
(not shown Rocktron Intellifex, currently not in my rack)

Hey Soloist, good score  :thumb-up: and very nice rig, seems you have all the bases covered for great tones and versatility  >:D . Shame the Marshall and the Voodu don't have rear inputs.

Yeah, I agree on the rear inputs but for the tones I'm getting....I can live with it. :metal: :whoohoo!:

Hey El, yeah, kick arse  >:D , very nice rig, and the Alesis rack mixer to bring them all together and well thought out switching, very nice set up IMO. I imagine I could loose myself for a few hours playing through it  :whoohoo!: . Moreover, IMO it's a really good example of how to do it right (with all the vagaries of how you might patch a system/rig)  :thumb-up:

Hey MJMP, it took awhile and countless signal routings I think I wired it every way possible, but here is what I decided on:
Floor Board-

Guitar>Noise Suppressor in. Noise suppressor send>Tube Screamer>Super OD>GE7>Noise Suppressor return. Noise Suppressor out>Morley A/B/C in. (Morley a/b/c) A>GE7>JMP1 in, B>ADA MP1 in, C>Morley A/B in. (Morley a/b) A> Rack Tuner>Piranha in, B>voodoo Valve in. Ground Control Pro wired to all 4 preamps, G Major2 and Intellifex. I use the CC on the GCP to turn on/off G Major 2 effects.

Rack-

ADA MP1 r/l out>r/l in BBE 462> channel 2 on alesis mixer
JMP1 r/l out> r/l in channel 4 on alesis mixer
Voodu Valve r/l out> r/l in channel 6 on alesis mixer
Piranha r/l out> r/l in channel 8 on alesis mixer.
Intellifex in fx loop of Piranha
Alesis Mixer out > G Major 2 > Carvin Power Amp > 2 ADA Split Stacks.

Very versatile set -up. I can use any combo of preamps, from 1 to all (not that I would use all at once) but you could.

That's quite a setup, are all 4 on at the same time?

No. Usually 1 or 2. I can do all 4 at once but that takes some major level tweaking.
Sounds like a wall of sound with only 2 on.
