Cheers from the Bluegrass State!
« on: Time Format »

I've been on the forum for a little over a week now and figured it was about time that I introduce myself!

As you can assume from the title, I am from Kentucky. I've been playing guitar for a little over a decade now and I'm probably younger than most of you (mid 20's). I've been an A/DA fan for quite a while and have visited this forum on multiple occasions, but never registered because I didn't have any A/DA gear until recently, when I purchased my first MP-1. I say "my first" because I definitely do not expect it to be my last, and I'm already looking at other A/DA products (both old and new) for my next purchase.

I'm about to start my graduate studies to be a teacher (so I have a backup plan if the band doesn't hit it big!) and I have a wonderful finance who helps support my never ending GAS.

I look forward to seeing you all in the forum!

Cheers!

Welcome!! I know a damn good drummer in your state, but he's about 50 now, so he's probably a LOT better than when I knew him ;)

Do they have any whiskey in KY?

There is a common joke that "The Bluegrass State" should be replaced with "The Bourbon State,"needless to say we have our fair share of whiskey!

You'll find a lot of answers and support here on this Forum. It's good to see that some of the younger generation still looks into ADA gear.

The majority of my music collection is 80's music, the rest of it is a range of blues/rock/metal from the 50's to today.

Great choices for your roots! I might also suggest checking out some of the hard rock bands from the 70's. There's a lot of the 80's roots in that music, and it can't hurt to expand your musical vocabulary :thumb-up:

I'm actually a fan of quite a bit of 70's music...

The obvious ones: Sabbath, Zeppelin, Priest, & Kiss. (I'd include the Stones and the Who in here but they also have roots in the 60's)

My parents also turned me on to artist like: Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, Blue Oyster Cult, Dr Hook (of all things), and Montrose.

My fiancé jokes that my music tastes are getting worse, when we met (almost 10 years ago) I was strictly a hair metal guy, but now I listen to other 70's artists such as Sweet, & ELO.

This isn't all of them, but if you have any suggestions for other artists I'm all ears!

Yes, definitely the obvious ones! Well, 3 of 4 ain't bad....I never cared for Kiss much and never really will except maybe for the Lick/Animalize era.  I fully realize and appreciate how they influenced others, though.

BUT.   I've got two words for you.   Uriah Heep.   Get you some Magicians Birthday.    This album rules, front to back.  :banana-rock:
And then: Rainbow.    The Rising album also rules, front to back.
And then.....ah you know the drill.    :)

I'm familiar with both groups, not sure why I've never gave them a listen, but I know what I'm going to be doing tomorrow! Thank you for the suggestions!

Hey PS91, welcome to the depot and greetings from Australia  (there's a few of us lurking (with intent) around here).
I'd suggest you have a listen to some Australian rock also (as well as AC/DC LoL), as Angry Anderson from Rose Tattoo said, no one attacks a guitar like an Australian  >:D
