I'm thinking it's a battery issue but not 100% positive...
Today I turned on my MP1 and my custom presets were erased, I tried some of the factory (unless altered by previous owner) presets and no sound at all.. I checked the settings and all the master volume setting were set to 0.
How can I fix this?!

Did the display show an Error CR message and proceed to count through the 128 presets when booting up the unit?

It counts to 128 says err 1.. err 2.. err 3
Then goes to preset 1

Load the Factory Presets back in and see if this fixes the prob.

According to manual:

LOAD ALL 69 PRESETS:
1. Press the STORE button. lt will light.
2. Press the BANK button and while holding the BANK button down press the number 1 button.
3. The display will read "Presets Loaded" When the display returns to a program number, all 69 factory presets have, been restored.

If this only cures the problem once and have to do this upon every startup, then the memory is not being saved.  Usually a dead battery is the problem.  Sometimes there's other issues in the battery/memory chain but that's fairly rare.  Replacing the battery is a bit easier than it looks, and if your unit doesn't already have the Battery Mod now is a great time to get that.

Thanks for the info.. I turned the unit on and off several times to test it, after reloading the factory settings and a test custom preset are saved each time I turn it on, still sound like the battery?
Good tip on the battery mod I'll definitely do that..

The battery is probably just on the verge of losing the voltage needed to maintain the memory circuit and after a day or three it might let the memory slip again.

If the original battery is still in your MP-1, it's been in there for a very long time.

You can measure the battery voltage,if it's below 2.7V it's time to change it.

rnolan

A couple of other backup measures for when you have presets you care about, you can dump them to a file (and reload later, instructions are in the manual), most library programs can do this (you also need a midi interface to your PC), but there's a simple program for this posted in the MP1 section.
And the tried and true method is write them down (word file, spreadsheet, paper).

Also of note, there is now a mod posted which removes the need for a battery. One member has done it successfully and posted the details. Although soldering in a new CR2032 (you can buy them from electronics shops with the legs already attached), or the battery mod is fairly easy.
