Title: MP-1 Noise Mod - TL072IN no longer available, is the 105C max a critical spec?
Post by: DesolationBlvd on February 22, 2024, 03:42:28 PM
I want to perform the Noise Mod on my MP-1, since the battery died and I might as well do it while I have the case open, but 511-TL072IN is no longer available at Mouser. I notice it had a +105C maximum temperature, compared to the +85C the other available through-hole TL072s top out at. Meanwhile, the only high temperature TL072s are SMD. Is the maximum temperature a critical spec?

Hey DesolationBlvd, my guess is yes, particularly if it's near the tubes or anything else that gets hot.  Maybe one/some of our more tech edumacated members can advise but a 20C difference is substantial.

Use a OPA2134PA

OPA2134PA is also an 85C part, but wouldn't worry about it. Should hold up fine as long as the gear is well ventilated.

If you really wanted to use a higher temp TL072 there are DIP to SMT adapters but it wouldn't bother.  MJMP's advice is "sound."

Thanks for letting me know of the replacement you would use for the now-discontinued part. I've placed the order now.
