Title: My BBE 462 Died
Post by: Soloist on September 23, 2015, 02:05:49 PM
So, my BBE 462 crapped out on me. I was considering getting another but I found this instead.
Rocktron Pro Q. It's a maximizer/exciter with a kind of parametric eq. It also is midi controllable and can hold 128 presets. It has a built in hush as well. Picked it up for $50! This perked up my rig more than the 462 did! Now time to go make presets!!!! :metal:

Here's the difference between the two:
BBE contour is at 50Hz        Pro Q bass is at 170hz
BBE process is at 5KHZ       Pro Q presence is at 6.5Khz
The Pro Q has a phase manipulation circuit with mix control independent for right and left channels.
The Pro Q also has a sweepable mid freq from 80hz to 10Khz. It can be notched or boosted and has it's own level control.
The Pro Q also has a built in Hush noise reduction.(I don't use it though)
The Pro Q is midi capable.
The Pro Q can store 108 user presets and 20 factory presets.

I currently have it right after my mixer before my G Major 2, but I think since I don't use the Hush on it I might try it after the GM2 before the power amp.
Anyone else using or have used one? What was your take on it?

Update after further testing:
Ok in case anyone is interested, I ended up putting the Pro Q in the effects loop of my line mixer. It sounds best in that location plus it allows me another parameter beings I can adjust the mix for each channel. The Piranha likes it full on while the JMP-1 likes a 50/50 mix. Still tweaking it for the MP1, but I think it is way more versatile than a BBE 462. :thumb-up:

BTW the hush on a low setting doesn't choke my tone and it eliminates my MP1's hum! :whoohoo!:

OK, after 2 weeks of tweaking and setting this Pro Q up all I can say is " Holy Fu&%ing Shit!!!! This thing absolutely kicks ass!
I can't believe I didn't try one sooner. :dunno:
After you find that sweet spot for your amp/amps it really opens up your sound.
Best piece of gear I have picked up in a long time.(probably since my MP1)
