Hi Everybody !
I recently purchased an old ADA MP1 (v 1.38) Sounds great ! but there is noway to store any preset :
I mean,...i press "edit" ... modify the preset... And when I press "store" ...no blink !! and nothing happen on digit screen
When i start my MP1, troubleshooting shows the red LED is working anyway !
some help would be great

Is memory protect on ? Just a guess, check the manual and make sure it's turned off as its job is to stop you storing patches accidentally.

I 've no idea about this "protect memory" function.So I rapidly check my mp1 manual (v1.38) and didn't get any info on that, i've found some on mp1 manual (v2.01), but it doesn't work because of the need to use the "store" button which is actually unable.
Anyway, i recently change the battery, so don't you think the "protect memory" would be erased since ?

Normally after a battery change the mem protect should be off.

Hey TG no worries :wave: , well my next guess is a problem with the store button or the button not engaging "Store" mode. MJMPs is also watching this post and may have some ideas here.
I don't know if this will fix it (possibly not) but you can update the EPROM to v2.01 (easy to do and a good idea anyway) You can get one here (http://www.marshalljmpmodshop.net/miscellaneous_parts_and_replacement_tubes.htm). This was the last MP1 EPROM upgrade available.
Another thought, did you get the battery polarity right ? And also is it a "good" battery (some are duds), it needs a 3volt lithium battery (eg CR2032) and IIRC it needs to measure no less than 1.4v to work ? You can get them from computer and electronics stores with the PCB legs (wires) attached. If the battery polarity is correct and it has plenty of charge, maybe there's an issue with the RAM chip ?
Question (again) when you edit a patch does the unit function normally (ie you can hear the sound and change the parameter values) but you just can store the result ?

The battery change wipes the memory and the factory presets would need to be loaded again (if you wanted them), but the store button (mode) needs to function to do this :facepalm:

As i said to MJMP i need to ugrade most of my ada gear so the Eprom have to be replaced anyway, and even it doesn't fix... it will help for sure !
About the store button it doesn't feel different than others... i mean, when you press, it clicks the same way... it's not beat up. Everything is fine until you push this button :
no red led on... and no store mode (you only stay on the last parameter value) edit light and changed parameter keep blinking and nothing else (matters ???)
About Editing, everything is fine too : press edit for entering "edit mode", change preset parameters (Tone is changing too)
I replace once again the battery and put on the stongest I had, it's a 2032 type with 2.6volts. I 've inverted polarity to check... no more!
And you're right, i've no possiblility to load factory preset since the store button is unable (well ! that's fine... I prefer my preset !)
What is the deal with RAM chip ? this is something I've ever checked before !

The battery voltage should be at least 2.6V else preset loss could happen.Normally a new 2032 battery should have 3.3V.
Like i said in the email,if you can't return it you best option is to use the MP-1 pc editor.This way you can at least do some programming and use it.Downside is you need a V2.01 to use it and and midi connection from your pc to your mp-1

well... I have to face the truth. I think the button is dead. PC editor might be the solution because i don't use so much preset, even thought, when my preset are ok, I don't change it so much.
I'm just pissed off because when I opened this mp1. I could see how badly it was threatened... I'm surprised ; beside the button, it's still working.

I was just looking at the schematics of the mp-1 to see if we could find another way around it and i saw the store is the only one in the row (the buttons are in a matrix).What you could try and it's not sure it will work but there could be a bad contact in the connector were the (plastic) connection from the frontpanel comes in.So what you could try is get the plastic connection out of the connector really gently and put it back in (but be carefull).Sometimes this helps,had this problem with a few mp-1's and it usually helped.
I also once had a bad connector but i've only seen this one time.The other thing i had was that the conductive material on the plastic was gone,if that's the case nothing can be done.
I didn't think of this because when you have this problem ,usually multiple switches don't work.That's why i asked you if more switches didn't work.
So try it and let us know.
Now if this doesn't work i may have another solution,but let's try this first.

OK, i've done that yesterday but i'm gonna check once again. this kind of connector are often used in Dashboard car. As time goes by, plastic become really fragile... So... yeah... really gently !!!
But let's go !

When it's out also check the connector contacts,one might be bend to far or broken off.

So I just check, and same result.
But I took time to check really carefully... No oxidation on the connector... it is uncut... and looks in a pretty good shape (no bend or broken)
the only part hard to check is the plug in the front panel so I tried to move a little and see if there is bad contact but nothing change !
I even try to unplug and plug while MP1 is on. And no difference !
Does ADA invented "plug and play" first ?

BTW there's no connector inside the front panel.

well, mmmmmmh... the way i fixed seems not reliable ; it works sporadicly. the plastic conductive material is kind of hard to work on...
it could be great to put a brand new...but i think there is noway to change it.
the good news is I know where it come from.

Well there's something you could do and that is ad a button on it,maybe on the side or on the back or even on top? A bit a pain in the *** to change a preset but better this then nothing i guess?

Well... thank you very much MJMP but I prefer giving up ! from now on the whole front panel doesn't work...only the digit. it' s just impossible to fix anything on that plastic conductive without messing the all damn thing.
I'm really disappointed... i was almost there :-[. Yestreday I had some hope.
but you know, maybe one day i'll grab a broken mp1 for cheap and fix this one .

Hi everybody, I'm re opening this thread because I 've found a solution for my dead mp1 front panel :banana-rock:
I know ; from inside it is uggly, but once I put the cover on it looks like an mp1 an it 's working like brand new

I pull off the 3 original stickers front panel properly, I've drilled holes on front panel, paste momentary buttons (with bi-component glue)

this tab explain how stickers interact with the socket on the PCB
So, when you press "bank button", stickers 1 creates a contact with socket 2 while stickers 2 creates a contact with socket 6

well, I' m not gonna explain the whole process if nobody need but just saying if one of you guys is having this kind of issue, don't wait(waste) 2 years to think about it ! I 'll be glad to share some experience

That looked like a lot of trouble, but if that works fine then Good Job! :thumb-up:
Does it really matter how good it "looks" under the cover? Maybe....but IMO as long as you provide "full disclosure" to potential Buyers of this unit (should you ever choose to Sell it) then all good.
