Hey Harley, I like the idea as an addition so you can make lots of interesting sounds if/when you need them.  The distorted guitar with the Godin nylon and the GR-55 was (surprisingly) passable but no where near what we get from our ADA preamps.  Also bending the nylon strings was a chore.  But if you wanted a flute  :whoohoo!: , and I suspect sax would also sound reasonable.

Hey Dante, good you fixed it  :thumb-up: .  I'm just trying to remember (as it was ages ago I changed out a couple of displays, was there one wire that need to be soldered?

So, I'm going to go build a speaker cab out of styrofoam now, it'll be super lightweight and I don't care if I break it. haha

You gotta see his video on 'where the tone in a guitar comes from'

Richard,

I am facing something like this.....I was playing my MP-2 and it was working fine until the display started shooting wonky weird characters. The unit was still working fine, but I couldn't edit any patches or even see which patch I was on because the display was really acting up.

Now, this is a blue display, aftermarket. I still have the stock one.

I opened up the MP-2 and immediately see one of the wires from the ribbon cable is loose. I connect it by hand and the display is instantly twice as bright, so that must be a wire for the backlight, or at least half of it. Either way, that cable looks bad, it's just the display cable tho. Probably not the one you're talking about.

I will try the old stock display soon,  but I'm no hurry...I'll follow up with what i find

Hey Richard,

The CG-1 Strat has all the electronics in it already, yes. I bought it 7 years ago because I wanted to get the GR-55, and they stopped making the CG-1 at the end of 2016.

The more I researched what these things would do the less I was sure the GR-55 is what I want. I may still get one and learn it, but I'm thinking what I really want is the SY-1000.

These three units are the only things that the CG-1 will plug into. I got the GP-10 just to see how it would do as a fly rig kind of thing. So far, all I'll say is it's interesting.

I gave my Friend MikeB one of my MP-2s.  Unfortunately, it had developed intermittent issues booting up which was being caused (I subsequently discovered) by the connection or lack there of, of the main ribbon cable which connects the front panel membrane switches etc. to the PCB.  The PCB end of the cable was a bit ratty, I tried cleaning the (very thin) connections but the socket was also not providing a firm connection.  So today he managed to fix it (well sort of).  He used a razor blade to expose some fresh wire (more like a trace in these ribbon cables) and inserted some wooden scewers to get a better connection to the socket and viola, it's working again  :whoohoo!: .  So next is to change the socket, not hard to source I suspect.  Judging by how clear the display is in the photo, it's one I replaced years ago when I bought it from a member in Sydney.  It's easy to displace the main cable when changing the display as the display cable runs through/under the ribbon cable so take care if you do replace a MP-2 display (which do dim over time).

Hey Harley, the GP-10 looks interesting and IIRC your CG-1 has the pickup for it installed factory.  Looking forward to your posts about it.  I had a fiddle with a friends GR-55 (I think he has) using his Godin nylon string guitar (which has the PU built in).  You can get some pretty amazing sounds.  Tony Mckenzie's review https://tonymckenzie.com/roland_boss_GP-10_synthesiser_effects_unit__inside_and_out_review.htm is pretty interesting.

This guy (Jim) has some great videos about testing where tone comes from. This one is on speaker cabs:

I know it's hard to resist when you have all that gear and you know how good it sounds on a stage when you're moving a lot of air. Trust me I DO know that feeling.

These days, I don't take my ADA gear out to gigs, but I will take it to a studio when I want to track some good tracks, but no live gigs. That's why I bought the Fender Cyber amps. They do a good enough job and I don't risk damaging the rack gear. Plus, they can get as loud as I need, or I can dial them in as low as I need to, and they provide most of what my rack systems do, and it's a lot more compact. The only issue is I can't take those to smaller clubs that don't want amplifiers at their gigs.

I just picked up a Boss GP-10 to use with my CG-1 Stratocaster to see how that sounds and what it has in it. So far, it's an interesting piece of equipment. I'm still learning about it, and I'll probably start a new thread on it soon.
