Title: ToddRyche versus TateRyche
Post by: Peter H. Boer on November 04, 2013, 04:31:05 AM
How do you feel about this?

My take:
While not dissing Mr Tate at all as I still think him in the top 10 of 'best singers ever', IMHO his version of Queensryche is exactly why I haven't really enjoyed anything after Promised land.

The Todd La Torre fronted version, however does take me back to the good old days  :thumb-up:

I saw them live last friday, and I tell you, I felt 25 years younger  :banana-rock:

OK, shoot  :banana-upsidedown:

I haven't listened to anything they've done after Empire.  I know, I know.     I just haven't been interested I guess, and for no fair reason.    But, I did see a clip or two of the new guy doing some vintage Queensryche tunes and was pretty happy about them.

If you stopped after Empire, do yourself a favour and listen to the new one, simply called Queensryche, and Promised land. :)

Yes.

In short:
Scott, Michael & Eddy got tired of Geoff's Diva antics, and their ever decreasing role in running the band and writing songs.
Also they disliked the old songs never ending up on the setlists
So they fired Geoff and his wife (the manager)

Geoff on the other hand claims to be Queensryche main composer and 'Face' of the band.

So there is now a court battle underway for use of the Queensryche name

I remember that too... had just come off being blown away by Randy Rhoads and then that EP landed... and about a year or so later, THE WARNING landed.  And then RAGE FOR ORDER.  That's when I stopped... RFO was the last good one for me and that and THE WARNING still rock my socks off...  I can't bear to hear the new stuff from either band now....

The first album I bought from them was "Rage For Order".  That album and "Operation: Mindcrime" rank very very highly in my list of all-time faves to this day.  :banana-rock:

My first album was Mindcrime - great album.
I've heard both new albums, and much prefer the LaTorre fronted band.

I really wish that Chris DeGarmo was back with the LaTorre version... his guitar lines were something special.

Both versions of 'ryche have been on That Metal Show, and I don't see any way that they're getting back together.
I notice Tate got the umlaut version of the logo...

...

+1!!

I still treasure my original 1991 Livecrime CD...and the accompanying Video/DVD in 5.1 is simply AWESOME. But Tate doesn´t have it anymore, imho since HITNF.
'Toddryche' sounds simply right.

Alike Kim, I kinda neglected the Ryche at Empire...

I didn't know that they were still going on with a new singer, left alone writing new albums.
I will give it a listen.
But Operation Mindcrime is a full on classic album.
It goes right along "A night at the opera" from Queen, "Dark side of the moon" from Floyd,
"Abbey Road" from the Beatles and such...   :thumb-up:

I don't know about LaTorre. He has the power that Tate once had but he lacks the polish or something.

Indeed he can be a bit more unpolished at times than Tate used to be.
I don't mind, I like unpolished

Mindcrime is one of my favorite CDs of all time, but to be honest I haven't listened to anything of theirs since Empire.

Nothing to add, really, but I misread the title as "Tater"

There's nothing more to hear after Empire album, I'm agree about Mindcrime is the best Queensryche's album. About the comparison between Geoff and LaTorre, Latorre is an amazing singer, nowadays better than Geoff but IMHO not so good than Geoff used to be. Queensryche is: Tate, DeGarmo, Wilton, Rockenfield and Jackson.

I like 'm both too.
Just think the Tate version is more reminiscent to Tate's solo album (which I also like).
And the Todd version is more reminiscent of the Queensryche I love (from start upto AND INCLUDING Promised Land)  :metal:
