ADA "MQ-1" RARE OR ??
« on: Time Format »

Hey Dudes hows it going? I happen to see this on E-Bay & was wondering...is this "MQ-1" really worth a grand? (That is what the Dude is asking for it?) Here's the link to it.... (http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-ADA-MQ-1-MIDI-PROGRAMMABLE-EQUALIZER-EQ-METALLICA-uses-them-w-MP-1-/321290883599?pt=US_Signal_Processors_Rack_Effects&hash=item4ace6dd20f)
I am not familiar with this unit & was just curious? Marshall I am sure you probably know this unit "Inside & Out" also!.....right? (LOL) What is so different about this one to the MP-1? The Board/Software Etc? Anyway if anyone has any info it would be very cool to hear about it.

The MQ-1 was an EQ system so that'd be the main difference between it and the Mp-1. Past that, ah don't really know too much about this unit and will let someone else answer.  ;D

Wow a grand, that's a lot of money for an EQ.Okay,it programmable,it has midi,it sounds great,it looks like an MP-1,but that price is way over the top IMHO.

...and for the $1000 you get a unit that hums ("they all do it" he says!) ROFL!

This guy needs a serious reality check - offer him $250.

Nah I am not interested in buying it I was just curious about it & what the difference between it & the MP-1was? He threw "Metallica" in his description to get some people "Hooked" on it so they would buy it! LOL!  :banana-rock:

Well he had better accidentally pack his Rolex with the MQ-1 with that asking price.  I don't think that I have ever seen an EQ priced that high before in my life.   ??? :???:

Seriously, that is unbelievable.  You can score at least 2-3 MP-1's or MP-2's for that price, and the MP-2 has a built in multiband EQ on top of the preamp EQ.

Yeah I spose things are worth what someone is prepared to pay.  $1 k is out there,
I don't think that I have ever seen an EQ priced that high before in my life.
Well there are some very expensive EQ options available mostly for studio use and to some extent live PA rigs which can be more than $1k, like much very high end pro audio gear that little bit better can cost quite a bit more.  I remember a Dennon CD player which cost $22k, was it better?, yes, was it worth it? depends ;)

I can justify those costs and benefits in studio, there is much to be gained sonically in that environment.  But in a guitar rig midi setup in a live setting, not so much.

Totally agree, also a full 1/3 octave 32 band eq is overkill for guitar (although I remember Satriani had 2 in his effects rack when he played here in Canberra years ago, I got to drive him around, very nice guy).  The upside with the MQ1 is it's tailored for guitar frequencies.  Also you can pick up a DBX dual 15 band for around $200 (not programmable/MIDI though).  I've got one in my PA rack for foldback sends, not a bad unit.  My MP2 has plenty of eq options, more than I personally need.
