MB-1 Q & A
« on: Time Format »

I wanted to start a thread for answers to questions about the features and functions of the MB-1 that aren't necessarily technical problems.

First one:

The low pass switch on the back panel is labeled 'IN / OUT'  with a dot by the OUT position sugesting that it is the reccomended setting.  The manual states that the low pass switch is labeled "ON / OFF" and should be kept on.  I was wondering which setting (IN/OUT) was actually OFF b/c my poweramp has built in speaker protection and I can't really hear the difference in 2 positions of the switch.

Hey BDS, more Peter territory than me but I agree, dot should mean out (i.e. lets not stuff with the signal here so clean..).  Turning on a low pass filter will lets low freq's (~20hz - ? ~~1khz?) to pass up to whatever the filter is set to (this is turning off highs), high pass is the opposite, highs get through lows don't (depending where the cut off freq is set). Depending what the low pass filter is set to, it may make no or little difference.

LOW FREQ. LIMITER:

I called this a low pass filter in my first post probabbly in error; it would be a high pass filter b/c it passes all frequencies higher than the set point on to the power amp  and sends the lows to ground.

Any ways, upon closer inspection of the manual, the low frequency limiter 'has no effect on the high, full range, or balanced direct outputs'.  I am using the full range so that is why I'm not hearing a difference in the settings.

It would still be nice to confirm which position of the switch corresponds to the limiter bein ON or OFF for future reference.

The low freq. limiter is a limiter on the LOW-OUT only.
This is to prevent subharmonics blowing out you poweramp and/or low cab with those 15-20 Hz thumps.

The down position of the switch should mean the limiter is off, the up that the limiter is working.

The pot is setting the amount of limiting (threshold) to optimize for your set-up.
The small dot points to the default setting if you use a full ADA set-up with B500B power amp and 2 Bassline cabs.

LOW FREQUENCY LIMITER:

Apparently, OUT = OFF = Default Setting.

Again, thanks Peter - there are plenty more questions coming so thanks in advance too.

NEXT QUESTION:

When I start my MB-1, it goes through the power on sequence, then, when it is ready to play, it defaults to the "MIDI PRGM" setting.  Is this normal?  I'd like it to automatically be on the Internal programs after power on.  ??? ???

Both my MB-1's power on on the same setting as previously powered off on.
So this seems to be a technical issue, maybe MJMP can help?

Midi Program - you have Internal programs / Factory Presets / Midi Programs memory locations to select from.

When I power up my MP2, it goes to the same patch as when I turned it off (generally 112), (not the MXC though, it goes to 001 and I have to bank it back to the patch), then give the pedal a full up/down (so now (MIDI) master vol is off), good to go... I find it a feature not a tech issue.

My MB-1 is always 'ON' - I use the front switch on my power condtioner to toggle the power on and off, not sure if that has anything to do with it.

That's what I do, so it should not have anything to do with it

Looking at the power on default, it does power on to the last patch I was running, but on the 'MIDI Program' memory location not the 'Internal Program' location.  There doesn't appear to be any difference between the two locations, patches I save on the internal programs are automatically on the MIDI program location.

NBD, I was just wondering what was going on there.

Ah okay i tought this came on the display,my bad.

What happends if you change a patch, save it,power down and back up?does it go to the internal and is this patch still the same?

Yes the patch will be saved correctly.  It will power back up on the last patch used but it is on 'MIDI' not 'INTERNAL'.
