Hey MJMP, so if they fail, you should remove them from the unit? will it still work with it removed? or are there other things you need to do when you take the chip out?

No you can just take it out, the MP-2 will work fine without it.

Did anyone ever attempt reverse engineer this chip?  I have ideas about how to reverse engineer it and replace it. Interesting it is fed with 15V.  This world of super cheap PCBs from CN opens up some options.
