I can't believe the depot's back!
« on: Time Format »

Hey Folks,

Was looking for info to possibly re-tube my MP-1 again, and look what I find

It's great to see some familiar names and some new ones too!

For those who don't know/remember me, I'm John.  Purchased my MP-1 way back in the late 80's (my original EPROM had 1.36 typed on it and it was crossed out in pen and 1.38 written over it).

Had the lovely MarshallJMP put in an MDRT and do the Noise and Super Stock mod to it.  Currently running two RUBY 12AX7AC5 HG+ tubes in it.  Great tone, but thinking about trying the short plate Mullard re-issues.

Again, it's nice to see the Depot back!

Hey John, great to have you back  :thumb-up: I run the Mullard long plates in my MP2 and really love them.. Another member tried the short plates in his his MP1 and was very happy so give them a go and let us know...  Next tube change, I'm going to put a set in my MP2
Cheers Richard

Cool.  Thanks for the feedback, Richard.  My MP-1 is starting to try to get a little more noisy again so I thought the short plate might be a safer bet.  I'm pretty sure I'm going to try one or the other but a couple of nights ago I had one of those nights when everything just sounded right ... you know, that wonderful experience us tube folks get to have when the humidity, barometric pressure, temperature, alignment between the moon and Saturn are just right so you get that perfect tone.  So, I'll probably play these a little longer then try the swap  ;D

Absolutely  >:D , I love those nights (I find a little tequila helps also.. good for my barometric pressure).  The short plates should be less microphonic (better for very high gain) and also depends how much vibration (from the sound(s) around it) it's exposed to. So I agree with your thinking, I need to try the short plates as my gut tells me the long plates should have more depth (nothing scientific here). I think short plates would be best for MP1 (I have MP2 these days, slightly different animal  >:D ), IIRC my MP1 had lots of low mid depth.  The main thing I noticed with the Mullard long plates in my MP2 is how 3D they are, they really open up your tone compared to other tubes I've used.

Welcome back,
To that same old place that you laughed about.

Well the names have all changed since you hung around,
But those dreams have remained and they're turned around.

Hey RobbHell, is that an age test?  If so ... yes, I'm old enough to have seen the show's original airings  O0
