Mod3 or Mod3.666?
« on: Time Format »

Hi,
I've modded my ADA MP-1 with the Mod3, and Noise Mod v2, but the tone is not what I expected. I would like to get some more high gain recto rythm sound. Is the Mod3.666 the better mod for this?

Hey FoneBone, (I would like to get some more high gain recto rhythm sound), can you give me a bit more description of what your chasing, high gain I get, recto ???  ??? (I'm 54 heard lots of stuff over the years), rhythm, what sort? (e.g. I believe in Milkos hot chocholate - Soundgarden, feel the Rhythm while you can ??), not to be glib, just to understand, the MP1/2 can do lots of things...
I suspect you'd be happier with a MP2, my guess.. from what you've said so far.
Regards Richard

The mod3.666 will have more gain but it will also sound different from the mod3.So if you're looking for recto tones go for the 3.666.

Thx Richard, I've meant the Rectifier sound. I'm searching for a sound like Alter Bridge or Creed have. I know that Mark Tremonti uses the Triple Rectifier, sometimes a Bogner Ubershall and other "bad monsters"!
Maybe this is more concrete.
Thanks in advance.

The mod3.666 will have more gain but it will also sound different from the mod3.So if you're looking for recto tones go for the 3.666.
Thanks MarshallJMP. Do you know any source of comparison samples of both mods?

Hey FoneBone, ok I get you now I think.  My ideas here will be more general as I don't have direct experience with MP1 mod(x) or Boogie Rectifier(s).  However, I do know MP1/2 quite well and have played along side plenty boogie users.  Boogies are (in my experience) very middy amps generally (although I note the web site says the rectos have better bottom end, good thing...), they are also very touchy (getting the tone controls right) but are very articulate in the mids (their claim to fame maybe).
MJMP is the mod master, so if he says the 3.666 is the best MP1 mod for your sound choice, it will be.
Many of us ADAers go with scooped (lowered) mids which is more the Marshall sound (more my thing), to make a boogie sound you probably need to play/tweak with the mids and feature them a bit/lot.  Boogie even have their speakers made middy, I've got boogie 90w celestion 12s in my ADA slant split stacks, they are way more middy than other celestions.
It seems the rectos are chasing much higher gain, as are the MP1 3TM mods, so then it's down to tone/eq etc., the MP1 has the basic tone shaping (B, M. T, P), using a decent analogue graphic in the loop is an option (recto has 5 band graphic ?) (BTW MP2 has 7 band graphic built in and shitloads of gain...).
Anyway hope that helps you thinking... Cheers R

Wow... I'm very impressed!!! Thank you so much! Will try to check some new settings, maybe in combination with the Mod3 and my custom Triple Wreck pedal... and try to post some sound examples later!

Sounds like the go, Steve would know  :thumb-up: Steve (Randall dude  >:D ) also uses a little MXR eq (is it 6 band Steve ?) which is analogue  :thumb-up: and (or something similar) could help you tweak more recto sounds ?? Don't forget speaker choice however, boogie get their own special celestions made and they are much more articulate/abundant in the mids than the celestions in Marshall cabs, I know I have 4 in 2 of my ADA slant spit cabs

Ok... I guess it will be the Mod3.666! One last question: Is there any difference between the "Do-It-Yourself".pdf and the tubeboard of MarshallJMP???

The schematic is the same.Mine is fully populated, all new high quality components, wires and new PCB adapted for the extra components. Also with an original board you need to use a 9" OD2 cable going from the back to the front,my boards have a connection on the front so the wire is much shorter. You will also get the extra components for the mainboard in the kit and the 3.666 decal.

Hey PhoneBone, obviously up to you, but personally, I'd go with the MJMP new tube board, he's all over this "like a rash" :thumb-up:
