Transformer change out
« on: Time Format »

Well since the chorus died on buddy Jason's 1.38 and sounds weak and thin I'm using it for parts. As you can see from this pic the newer unit we got is number 5 and has had some things changed. You'll notice the fuse holder and power switch are not stock and I'm not certain ADA had transformers that came from Mexico.
So I took the stock switch and fuse holder and trans from the 1.38 and put the number five we call "Ace" back together!

Much better sounding for sure! However there is still a slight buzz in this unit that even the gate in my QuadraVerb can't cut out but it still sounds really good! I think this one might get sent to MJMP but we will see how things go.

So just an update Folks!  :D

Looks all stock to me, ADA used Mexican (and Taiwanese) transformers, and used the red switches sometimes.

OK I have a question; the reason I changed the transformer in the first place was because it made a loud buzzing sound that will vibrate and you can hear it across the room if you are not playing. It sounded like a bad ground and my noise gate will not clean it up either. When I put this transformer into the old 1.38 the same loud buzz and vibration followed.
Would you have any suggestions MJMP?

On a side note - this transformer makes what ever unit it goes into VERY loud and responsive! Like where ever the master is set on other units it becomes 3-4 levels above that! It sounds great but the noise and buzz is the deal killer -

Mmmm that's strange, and is it a mechanical vibration?

Yes. When the unit is out of the rack sitting on the bench it will vibrate and buzz - in the rack it's even worse! :o

This happened in the unit with the red power switch and then followed when I put it in the 1.38.

I have had now probably 30 MP-1s in the last 25 years and NEVER had one do this MJMP  :dunno:

Yes the same one that has the assembled in Mexico tag - the vibrating and buzz transfers to whatever unit I put it in MJMP  :dunno:

Either it wasen't potted very well, or there's something wrong with it.Does it get hot during use (I mean really hot).
