Ok so reading now an interview of the Maiden guys in Premier Guitar I just read something that has me VERY interested in knowing more!!!  :banana-dance: Well it looks like he has said it before (did a quit search on google) but Adrian says this:

http://www.premierguitar.com/articles/23207-iron-maiden-out-of-thin-air?page=2
"PG: Did you use any new amps on the album?
Smith: I chop and change. When I rejoined the band, I was using an ADA with a power amp. Then I switched to the Marshall JMP-1s, which Janick and Dave were using. And then I thought I’d do something different and I went back to the Marshall heads. It’s a different sound."

So my fav Maiden player used part of the same gear I have!!!!!!  :whoohoo!:

So we HAVE to learn more of this!!! How can we get in touch with him to tell us more of this, how he used it, where and what settings did he use?

Come on guys, thru all of us working together we must find a friend, of a friend, of a friend that can get in touch with him!!!

Up The Irons!!!!!!!!  :metal:

Hey El, contact premierguitar and ask them to pass on an email or something, They obviously know how to contact him. A good place to start I'd suggest  :thumb-up:

Well he didn't use it for very long  :dunno:  So he's a traitor now El.  You should be sending him hate mail!

Premier guitar will not give out details.  Your best bet is through Faceb**k.  That is how my own band have spoken to the bigger bands.  Premier will have arranged the interview with Adrian via Iron Maidens management.  It's very unlikely Premier just rang up Adrian Smith and said "hey yo Ad fancy a chat?"

They best piece of gear I think Maiden used was all of this:

Gallien Krueger 2100sel
Gallien Krueger 250ml

solid state!!

Somewhere in Time era and Seventh Son era!!!  I'd kill for those sounds in my pocket!

EDIT:  i FOUND THIS

don't forget the super distortion!!  That was a big part of those sounds also.  Great tone as you say MJMP.

Still prefer the late 80's though

I did post this earlier in a link, show you how he had it set up......................at one point

I just like these early 80's classic metal sounds.

And surely by now you know I do also?  It was only a week ago I was asking how we got some of those Accept tones and the Tokyo Blade sound on the early records.

I must say the Tokyo Blade sound is nothing like Maidens though.  Doesn't have that tweedy strange texture.

Check out this song as well MJMP what do you think Peter Masson is using?  It sounds similar texture to the early Tokyo Blade, perhaps a distortion+ also?

Early Grave Digger is awesome.  Not sure I can dig the later stuff as much.  Too much "EPIC" theme to it.

Could also be a boss DS-1 distortion.

How would one use a ds-1 with an amp?  I've never got got results using one into an amp.  Only had good results going into a clean amp.

I worked out that what I like about that MXR distortion +  It's the fuzzy edge that doesn't dominate but adds in a nice texture to the overal distorted guitar sound.  Really cool and a lot more interesting than the distorted guitar of todays guitarists.

No there is no doubt about that is f**king great sound.

I literally read yesterday this
old Japanese DS-1's sound a lot better then the Taiwanese ones

Just out of curiostiy.  The boss GT5 and GX700 (all analogue drive section) and GL100 )all contain basically every boss distortion/OD there was at the time they were made.  Given that they were made in Japan, does this mean their DS-1 would be the same as the japanese version?

Give me an idea how you would run a DS-1 into a marshall?  Get the marshall clean as possible?

Don't know about those multi effects but i do know the old boss me-5 did have the ds-1 inside.

As for the setup, yes i either take the lowinput of the jcm800 and set it clean, or i take the older heads , bridge the channels and also set them clean.
But for best results set it loud.

When I had my Marshall DSL I would run a DS-1 into the crunch channel, gain on amp about 3.
On the DSL's clean the DS-1 just didn't have enough hair for me so on that channel I used the Boss power stack and later a Wampler Plexitortion.
Even though the tones were nice sounding I never could get it to match the tone in my head.
That why I don't own any of those pieces any more. :thumb-up:

You will never get a tube sound with a pedal, but it can give some interesting tones sometimes.
