Hey friends! I picked up an S1000 a week ago and got excited about adding it to my studio setup. I cleaned the pots and gave it a good deoxit treatment. When I power the unit on, the led’s are all permanently lit up and are unresponsive to the input signal. The input and output pots respond and pass signal, but the fx don’t work. As I move the mix knob to the right, my signal decreases until it’s nothing. It appears the effects aren’t working or getting signal perhaps? The pcb and components seem to be in good shape to my eye.
I’m quite handy with a soldering iron, so any help or advice on this would be greatly appreciated!

Have no fear, someone will chime in with an answer or at least a place to start (I am not that guy-sorry). Together though, we'll get that S1000 going (congrats on getting that!)

Thanks Dante :-) Very excited about getting this working. I was able to find the schematic for it so maybe thats a good starting point. Looking froward to fixing it up with a little ehlp from the community.

Welcome to the depot. When you get the S1000 working, you'll like it. It's old school technology, so it only does one effect at a time, but it does each one very well. I ought to know, I own a bunch of them. :thumb-up:

I’d be happy to pick one up. Would a simple one from Amazon do? I’m open to suggestion.

Hey guys! I was avle to chase down the issue with a little experimentation. It appears one of the chips (TL072) was defective and it was messing with the entire circuit. I've got the IC list and I'm going down the line replacing chips and retesting. It keeps sounding better and better! Definite vibe to this thing :-)

@Matt, great news. How did you ascertain the TL072 was defective??

I had a hunch when I started following the diagram and removing individual chips till the led’s went out (they were originally on all the time regardless of input signal). I had a few leftover tl072’s from a tac scorpion console I’m recapping, so I swapped out the one that appeared to be affecting the led’s. It worked like charm. I took the old chip I replaced and tried it in another part of the circuit… it immediately caused the unit to start behaving the same way it had been.

If you ever come across and opportunity to pick up an "i" series delay, do it. It's every bit as good as the S1000, but does a little bit more with the modulation. The i128, or i256 are the ones I look for, but the i68 does great flange/chorus effects too.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of set up are you running it through?
When I got my first one, I was running it in the effects loop of a GK 250ML before I ever got to try it in the MP-1. It was sounding killer in that amp, (which I still have), and I was able to create several chorus, flange, and delay settings which I wrote down on the blank settings pages in the owners manual. It's surprising what a wide range of effects that little delay can cover.

I’m using it in a patchbay with some synths mostly. I’ll for sure be trying it with a guitar setup soon, but I mostly use fx like these for sampling and sound design.

I've been told by several studio engineers that they like these old ADA effects in their setups. I imagine they'd work well in the mixing desks too.
