Hi guys, so I just picked up one of these units on Craiglist for real cheap and the reason it was real cheap was because it was only partially working. For whatever reason, the outputs don't appear to be sending any signal. However, the FX send is in fact, sending signal. The fx loop send signal only appears to send an analogue signal however as none of the digital effects can be heard through the fx send...
Does anyone know what's wrong with the unit and how to go about fixing it? I opened it up and saw nothing obviously wrong with the unit, but something must be borqued if none of the normal outputs are sending any signal.

So update: I was screwing around with it a bit more and low and behold it randomly started to work! I was just screwing around with the output jack and the pot on the front and all of a sudden the full signal kicked in with digital effects and all that jazz. However, after jamming around a bit, the tone and effects started to get all distorted and 'jumpy' and then the signal disapeared again. While it was distorted, the clipping light for the eq section was flashing.
I tweaked around with it for about 15-20 more minutes and it'd sometimes start working again, and then suddenly drop out out of nowhere... seems like something is loose, there is a bad solder joint, or a transiter/chip is dying on me.
Anyone know what's going on here and know how to fix this?

Cool. But wait, the 2101 has a lithium battery in it, methinks.
This could very well be the root course for the boot and random reset problems.
Check out it's voltage, and chances are it's pretty much dead. EDIT: should read at least 2.7 volts.
As for the other problems.. :dunno:

WEll it isn't rebooting and resetting; the device stays on the whole time, its just the signal stops flowing for some reason

To be fair, I didn't know whether or not he does support stuff, only that he sells stuff (which he does support).
I can understand not giving general support for free/unpaid - tried this myself, and what a time consumer..
Anyways, on his pages are links to various other Digitech resources, IIRC also some forum stuff, where help might be had.

So it just spontaneously fixed itself...
Let it sit overnight and plugged her in to start diagnosing crap again and was immediately greeted with a full signal with no artifacts, distortions, or any issues. I was just playing away knowing full well, within 15 minutes or so it'd stop working again... however...
its still working
It's been about 2 hours now and I've had no issues. I've moved it, brought it to a different room, hooked it up to my computer and welp, its STILL WORKING.
I have no idea what the gear ghosts did, but they did it well!

Nope, no ghosts involved. Your observed initially erratic behavior, replaced by seemingly a functional device, makes me think..
I'd say you have either some lightly corroded connections between internal parts; some electrolytic capacitors that have mostly dried out; or a combination.
Does your 2101 have the PPC-210 S/DISH DSP module? (for dual DSP operation)
I'll suggest you open up your 2101, pull and re-seat all internal connections, and replace all electrolytic capacitors.
Re-seat the base S/DISH DSP chip on the motherboard, and also re-seat the PPC-210 as well (if one is present).
And still measure that the Lithium battery is at least at 2.7 volts.
If you don't believe in these suggestions, try unsoldering a few capacitors at random places (write down which ones, location and value), measure them with a capacitance meter, and I bet you'll notice they'll be quite somewhat down in value.
If you do not have a cap meter, go to some electronics store or repair whatever or a HAM dude for this check.
