ADA MQ-1 questions
« on: Time Format »

So my questions are simple:

a) is the MQ-1 all analog like the MP-1?
b) is this the only midi controlled with presets EQ out there?

Yes all analog, and fully midi. You can also check out the Rane MPE-14,this is a sort of copy of the mq-1.Ada sold the rights of the mq-1 to Rane in the late 80's.

You are waking up early today Marshal... or maybe still up late!?

Well I just tried using the EQ on my effects processor to boost at 80Hz and all I have to say is that my MP-1 is hole new animal now! This week I've been paying close atention to the lack of bass that MP-1 has but WOW I never realized it was so much untill now!!!

Just noticed that the TC 1128 is an option just like it says on the manual:

"The TC1128 is a computer controlled analog EQ which offers the best of the analog
advantages together with the best of the digital control advantages. "

Hey El, there's some other posts re modding the MP1 eq to change the centre frequencies, IIRC this was to get better bass response.

I'd proffer part of the lack of bass in MP1 is partly to do with when they were designed (for live use) and you didn't necessarily want guitar polluting the bass layer of your mix (I never felt I had to little bass all the years I used one on stage, then came MP2 with 9 band graphic...). The whole sub woofer thing has happened since (not to mention easier home recording) and the bottom end has moved down a bit (though most young sound guys have no fu$king idea where to set the cross over and make the bass guitar sound like mud (Peter has probably got similar experiences ?)).  Also the drop tunings were not a big thing back then, maybe the occasional dropped D but not dropping 1 1/2 to 2 tones. rant rant LOL

Working the night shift.

Maybe  the TC will be a bit of overkill with 28 bands. This is more for PA stuff.

Also the eqs used in PA setups have their centre frequencies set at the ISO standard which suit full range PA but aren't optimised for guitar like some guitar eqs. I use a DBX 215 dual 15 band eq for monitors in the PA, they are quiet, sound decent and aren't overly expensive.

Hey El, good to hear my friend  :thumb-up: , there's a wealth of knowledge here which we can all learn and benefit from. BTW your crazy questions/ideas are getting less crazy IMO LOL (as you learn more!! and not to mention others who read them, we have lots of guests who just read the posts)
As soon as I have the mic stands home, I'll do the 3 ADA split stacks with dry '72 Marshall down the middle, Rode NT5's L/R and RodeNT1 and EV RE20 on centre and make a sound bight for you. Ive been thinking of this set up for a while...
