Pop 80's reverb and delay
« on: Time Format »

Hey guys here's my dilema... I have a gig next month to fill in for a friend of a friend. They are an 80's pop cover band (not my cup of tea but after buying this house I could use the extra coin). I cannot for the life of me get the right tone to cover, wait for it....Corey Hart, sunglasses at night and a few others which have the same tone. Neither my G major 2 or G force will get it right. I am considering putting either my quadraverb or intellifex in the MP1 loop, so I don't screw up my normal patches. Just make a few mp1 patches with the loop on for this gig.  Anybody have a good patch for either of those units for what I need? Also an MP1 patch would help, all my patches sound too heavy, even ones I made with the o.d's below 5. :dunno:

It might be a tri- chorus, but I have never had any luck setting those up with a distorted tone, only cleans.

Me thinks, for the base tone, you should simply use a suitable [80's tone] pedal in front of your MP1.
As for the fill, either a Yamaha SPX-90 or FX-900 rack reverb, or one of the devices capable of a Dimension-C or -D.

I ended up using the clean channel on my MP1 with chorus plus a dirt pedal in front for the mid/low gain tones. Quadraverb in the loop with alot of chorus, delay and reverb. It was more than wet, it was soaked in those effects. It turned out well. Now if I need to do it again my gt100 has an awesome 2x2 chorus that will work just fine.

Doesn't the gt100 have an emulation of Dimension-C/D ?

No, it doesn't.  I wish it did. It has the 2x2 chorus. A mono, a stereo 1 and a stereo 2.

What dirt pedal did you use?

I believe I used a boss ds1 Gain around 30%, tone to taste and level at gain unity
