Hi all,

I just got my MB-1 preamp :)

I am german bass player playing in a bass/drum duo. I habe a fretless 6-string, GK800rb and 2 1x15 Mesa Boogie. I would like to change the 800rb to a poweramp and combine it with the MB-1. Do you have any recommendations on the power amp?

Where can I find some settings for the MB-1? Where can I start?

Best wishes,
Ray

Hello and welcom Ray  :thumb-up:

For some patches, try here http://adadepot.com/index.php?topic=153.0

Any poweramp with enough power will do, and for the time being just pluging into the effects return or poweramp in on your GK will work.

Hey Wimbish, welcome to the depot, nice to have some more MB1 users here. +1  :thumb-up: with Peters suggestions BTW. Just use the poweramp stage of your GK and feed the full range output of the MB1 to it, will sound very nice  >:D , to do this as peter says, just plug the MB1 full range output into the GK FX return, that should bypass the GK preamp (not a bad preamp BTW but not an MB1  >:D ) and send the line level out from your MB1 to the GK poweramp input, control volume on your MB1 master out.

Thank you :)

So I go from the fullrange output of the MB-1 into the return input of my 800rb and that is it?
Today I tried the fullrange out directly into the 800rb. This was already aweseome.

I need some settings for a "singing" sound when playing chords and tapping as well as a heavy overdrive. I will check the link and try to find my own sounds as well :)

Another thing: I have a Bass Whammy. This goes into the Send/Return of the MB-1, doesn't it?

Hey Wimbish, you can run a whammy in the loop (A or B loop) or like wah for guitars it may be better before the MB1, depends on the whammy's gain structure. If the whammy is instrument level (like stomp boxes typically are) then it's probably better before the MB1. But I'd try both and pick the one which sounds/works better for you. Also depends if you want to whammy the clean guitar signal (like a physical whammy on a guitar) and amplify that or if you want to whammy the preamp signal. As the whammy is basically a harmoniser (pitch shifer), it may track the clean un-amplified direct guitar signal better, as the harmonics from tube tones can be harder for harmonisers to track.

@Peter, I just read the manual, it says it came with software you can use to program the MB1  :dunno: .  Also does later firmware update allow for some CC (midi continuous control) ? IIRC I read that in a post here somewhere.

I'd say place it in one of the effectloops. That way you can switch it 'in line' only when you're going to use it, and your tone stays pure the rest of the time.

The MB-1 has gain pots on both the sends and the returns, so it will work with both.

2.05 version does allow for CC control, however limited to the steps you can set. You are simply switching through the same values that you do with the front panel switches.
Including the clicking sounds between each setting.
So only usefull when programming, not for live use.

Thank you all for the warm welcome  :thumb-up:

I have a bit a problem finding my right tone. There a multiple fine "normal" settings. But the overdrive and the chorus are tricky. I think that in the long run I might be using the ADA stetting number 7 oder 53(one of the 50ies was very Fodera-like "dry"?) or one of Peter's patches, and add my BOSS ODB3 and the Bass Whammy.

The combination with my two 15" cabinets and the 6-string fretless seem to work fine in this context  O0

edit:
I think I made a mistake: I tried to find my settings at home, using the ADA over the headphones (connected to a Tascam GTR recorder). It is so different in the rehearsal room --> with my full rig  :thumb-up:
